| West Stand/Fanzone Access 14:08 - Aug 25 with 1125 views | SWGF | https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/20 Is that much of a change other than a few more bag checks on the way into the Fanzone? Apart from the huge queue down the back of the North Stand to get into the first gate, there seemed to be a massive issue getting thro the turnstiles. The queue stretched across the Fanzone from the turnstiles to the fence near the bus depot, at one point. [Post edited 25 Aug 14:36]

| West Stand/Fanzone Access on 14:33 - Aug 25 with 945 views | Illinoisblue | Are the security checks a premier league requirement? Seems like overkill given that, in the entire history of professional football in England, there have been zero incidents ever that would have been prevented by patting someone down or waving a wand over them. | |

It’s absolutely pathetic. They take it all very seriously until about 2:50 & if there are still loads of people outside they just abandon the process.

My mate is in charge of match days for a small London club that gets crowds of around 2k. I quizzed him and he told me it is a new law, Martin's Law, that requires all venues to do bag checks. Don't know the full details and a Google of Martin's Law should shine a bit more light on why the security has been increased.

It's not about football related incidents though is it? It's the Manchester arena bombing or the Borough Market knife attack that is the concern. The idea that football should be more laissez faire on it because a minority of fans can't get their shit together and get into the ground early, is inviting an atrocity; for which, any club responsible will be absolutely destroyed for not doing more to prevent it. It's Martyn's Law, and without performing those checks, your liability insurance will potentally be void etc as well. [Post edited 25 Aug 15:17]

Even at Somerset for the county cricket with one man and his dog, and Reece Mogg and his mutant children, my overnight bag was searched. I hope the poor security bloke didn’t need too many injections after rummaging through the fetid trolleys. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

A legacy of the Manchester Arena bombing. Altho it has passed and received Royal Assent, the law is not actually in force yet. However, you can understand venues getting up to speed on it and the procedures in place now.

True but most liability insurance will ask for documentation and evidence that these checks are being performed to some extent now etc.
