Surely you must see why it was Hirst that went? Akpom was so poor last season that his attractiveness to other clubs was not very strong. On promotion,we were obliged to buy at the agreed price of a reported ÂŁ7 million. His wage, already at Championship level a tidy sum no doubt, will have switched to that originally agreed upon promotion making him almost unsellable to anyone below the Premier League. He was virtually impossible to shift. Hirst meanwhile, despite being on a decent wedge that will have increased on promotion too, I doubt was on anything like Akpom. Add into this that he had just scored 10+ Championship goals and that a decent fee for him would be profit on the books, of the two it was George who was possible and most profitable to move on. Shame really as he had looked decent on his appearances against Premier League opposition in 2024/5. I'm sure you knew all this already, didn't you? |  |
