Saw 8 confirmed dead … I think we’re sadly looking at something like 8,000.
Early still but it looks like an earthquake triggered a glacial lake to come hurtling down from 6,000 metres .. towns lower down seem to have a least got an alert..rush hour too.

I worked with many Nepalese people until very recently. Lovely, honest, kind, hardworking people. This is a complete tragedy. Thoughts are with them.

Saw the first clip on Sky News and it shocked me but the second one is very upsetting. Apocalyptic and horrific.

Just truly horrific scenes.

Those poor people looked like ants being washed away.
They had no chance.

That after the heaviest months rainfall in Japan for decades last month. Climate change doesn't exist you know, so some tell me.

except the cause was reportedly an earthquake which fractured a mountain lake causing the torrent of water. But let's blame the climate.
I dread to think how many are dead. Didn't stand a chance.

Don’t let’s start arguing on this one eh (generally, not aimed at anyone individually).

Too awful.

It’s too early to tell. The initial reports I saw said there was no seismic activity before the event. It likely the event itself would have been picked up on seismic monitoring stations.

Irrespective of the particular cause of this event, climate change is having a massive impact on mountainous regions around the world.

Yep, that second video is horrifying, those poor people.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

It looks utterly horrendous, those poor people with absolutely no chance to escape.

Looks like a glacier collapsed:

An incredibly well-timed Landsat 9 pass captured the effects of yesterday’s catastrophic glacier collapse near the Nepal–Tibet border. The event was so massive that it was detected by seismometers around the world.

Looks like a rock slide that unfortunately had the glacier sitting on top (hence the large water volume, as that ice would have turned to water pretty quickly). You can see a large area of rock to the left of the main glacier tongue has gone. That'd be my best guess.

Yes, horrendous. I don't know how far down valley the casulaties were, but in the steep and narrow valleys in that part of the world floods and flows shift down them pretty quickly and you don't get a lot of warning. Poor sods.
