Debt Slavery has arrived for Junior. 19:44 - Aug 26 with 1668 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

Final day on placement at the end of year three completed and will graduate as a mental health nurse with a first class honours. £60k debt duly racked up and paid employment with C.A.M.S. awaits in October. She's arrived.....poor thing!

Good luck to her!

Assume it's CAHMS? My wife is currently doing that but has decided she very much would prefer to do psychology with adults instead!

Congratulations to her on inheriting her mother’s genes!

Seriously, well done. She’s obviously been brunged up well to have that caring side to her. I don’t think I could face that kind of career. People in those roles are unsung heroes as far as I’m concerned (see any medical role).

Our oldest starts in Sept on a 4 yr Physics course. It’s scary how easy it is to secure a student loan. A few mouse clicks and you’re in debt up to your eyeballs. We need to value education and training more and not put as many financial hurdles in people’s way imo. Meritocracy not plutocracy innit.

I imagine CAMHS would be right, her take is that basically you're trying to keep them alive so that they can make it to adult services! Your wife is probably on to something.

Great to hear she's landed a job.

I think you said a while ago that that was not the case for a few on her course, which seems madness given the numbers requiring help.

Excellent stuff Slave Junior.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Your memory serves you well and she managed to secure a place where she most wanted to work. She had a placement there last year so that probably helped.

There are loads qualifying as nurses and midwives who can’t find jobs. It’s madness considering the flows on these courses are supposed to be linked to need, plus we’ve still got loads of unfilled vacancies across the NHS for these roles. Make it make sense.

Congratulations to Junior Slave mate.

You must be very proud.

Nobody can do anything without supportive caring parents.

She puts my rubbish economics degree and humble efforts to make a living to shame too. Let’s face it, some people are just flippin’ good!

Thank goodness - for the benefit to the rest of us.

This is, disappointingly, my view on the "service" provided too.

May be an unfair take - the staff are heroically engaged, but simply.not adequately resources.

That lines up.

Astonishingly long waiting lists and then people like my wife have to deal with people constantly not turning up or not engaging.

Meanwhile psychological services get less and less funding.

It's a disaster waiting to happen.

And despite the increasing need for provision in schools for those children with special educational needs and disabilities, school budgets are such that schools have been forced to sack teaching assistants in recent years.

Indeed, at the school my children went to, the teaching assistants were recently required to sit a test the results of which would determine which of them were kept on.

And of course, getting rid of teaching assistants doesn't only affect those with SEND but can affect the whole class if, say, the sole TA is a "one-to-one" because it means that others in the class who may not have SEND but struggle miss out on support from a TA.

Who says austerity is dead?

Just for clarity she is referring to working on wards for those in varying degrees of crisis rather than any community engagement/intervention work but I can well imagine that is fairly limited due to resources.
