No substantial rain in London for three months and then an enormous amount overnight yesterday.

Having been outside in the last hour and felt how humid it is then that scorecard isn't totally surprising. Going to need a bit of patience to rebuild now.

England 80/4 at lunch.

Ideal bowling conditions for Pakistan's medium pacers & they used them well. Just as well that England didn't win the toss as I reckon Pakistan would have been rolled over easily & probably another easy England win.

Test cricket is not a sport, it is an elaborate religious ritual we perform to please our pagan gods and bring rain for the harvest.

Prehaps its the ECB at fault for global climate change due to messing about with traditional test match summer scheduling!

Decent morning for England today. Last wicket adding useful runs and two in reply.

No rain yet either.

err, but harvest-time is the one time you definitely don't want rain. Good gag though.

Disappointingly one-sided afternoon, Pakistan totally failing to build on yesterday. This is going to be a comfortable England win.

Pakistan have been poor - again - but not quite as poor as the Lord's wicket. Ball deviating far too much & erratic bounce.

Point of order - some crops are ideally harvested with or after rain!

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Root veg and salads spring immediately to mind

yes, I guess so. When I think harvest time in summer, I visualize combine harvesters chewing through acres of golden barley and wheat. Forgot about root crops.
