Thank you Azor Matusiwa 06:44 - Aug 28 with 2582 viewsfranz_tyson

Just feel sorry for the lad in these heady times.

He's very unlikely to get much game time ( unless...we won't go there...), but he was our best player last season. His form only tailed off in the final few games because he wasn't fit, but we still needed him. And he played through the injury when he needed an op.
We flogged him to death to get us to the promised land... and then upgraded him.

We'll see ... I'd love to see him back in the team, but I think he'll now be behind Luis.

Nothing to suggest he wont be involved.

If he gets better whilst playing with those around him in training he could rotate well wirh lukic.

Think he will have a lot to offer once the season gets into full swing. He was one of the best midfielders in the championship last season and once fully fit will be able to make the step up to playing in the Premier League. As you say, can only get better with the quality around him now.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

It’s a long season and he will play plenty of games. He’s a terrific player with a great attitude.

Matusiwa had a good season, he was fantastic off the ball but a touch limited in possession for me, even at championship level. I think he’ll have a role to play, but lacks a bit of athleticism and quality on the ball for me, like Morsy did at PL level. He’s certainly further from the side than he was last season with the arrivals of Palacios, Florentino & Lukic.

With those 3, Azor & Nunez it’s a far stronger contingent than last time, not even comparable really. What becomes of Taylor? Off to Brum?

We are a premier league team and need a premier league squad. Matusiwa will get plenty of game time, whether it comes from the bench or through injuries, suspensions or loss of form from others.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

I have a feeling we may play 3 - 5 - 2 away from home in certain games and that is where Azor comes in

A victim of his own success you could argue. Was immense last season and who knows may yet still play a part but harsh reality is now we will likely have constant player rotation as we strive to upgrade and sell at profit to try and get the club back to glory days.

I don't know much of Florentino Luis but I don't think that a fit Matusiwa would automatically be behind him for a defensive midfield spot.

However, I don't think we'll see a fully fit Matusiwa much before Christmas.

I think players buy into the 'football is a squad' thing these days. Gone are the days of a first team that plays every week unless they are injured. In my opinion he probably won't get much starting league action this year if other players stay fit, but he's absolutely the sort of reliable, solid player we need as a squad member to ensure the standard doesn't drop too much when we need to change things up.

It says a huge amount that by and large last seasons best players are this years back up players.

This is exactly where I am with him. He excelled at regaining the ball for us and was definitely the best ball winning DM in the league last season. Is there much more that he can offer us though? Like you say, I thought he was limited in possession, and at this level, I don't think he would retain the ball under pressure or get on the half turn. In fact, I think he would actually invite pressure than release it.

The role I see him playing is more of an off the bench, screening the CB's role in a midfield 3. But the difference between him and Lukic was clear at the weekend, plus Florentino is an upgrade on Matusiwa, and Palacios will be paired with Lukic from the start.
