Mick Mills on Diop 22:19 - Sep 4 with 2572 viewscbower

He is so right. Ponderous, getting dragged into midfield (and not winning it) and not holding the defensive line at all. Not just today, every game so far. He has made a few decent challenges and covering tackles but overall he has been disappointing for me.

Defence isn’t good enough at this level full stop.

He was better at stepping out and intercepting second half but generally he and Greaves did not hold any sort of defensive shape at all.

Totally agree. Oddly, for such an experienced player, he seems really lacking in confidence or understanding of what he needs to do. I'm sure he'll come good, but having O'Shea in the middle, organising the whole defence and the two in front is preferable.

Might be OK again against the lesser sides, but been really shown up in last two,

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

I think most are going to have to end up living with that fact. The question is, what we can do to make up for it?

Lets be honest the defence and keeper are no better than last time we were in the prem.

Beat Sunderland, lost to Man Utd and Liverpool, two of the biggest clubs in the world pretty much, I do wonder if some peoples expectations are way too high ffs !!

Plenty of West Ham I have spoken to were surprised we signed him. Error prone and.possibly ok in a more established Prem defence but hes not going to be enough on his own. Mind you no worse than Greaves.

We should be winning every game with a clean sheet otherwise we all have to collectively call for our players to replaced/ subbed/ sold at the first opportunity!

Why would you support when you can call out your players for losing to Manchester United and Liverpool!

If you had said we would get 3pts from Sunderland, United and Liverpool we would have all taken it!

I think Greaves has been far worse than Diop personally

Although neither have been particularly impressive tbf

He’s cumbersome. He does organise things very well though and gets his head on everything coming into the box. He’s our new Burgess. He needs serious pace around him though. Hence the issue with O’Shea at RB. Greaves is actually ok for recovery pace, we just need better at this level. Why we didn’t prioritise a top level (for us) rapid LCB is beyond me.

The defence (and lack of midfield protection) will undo us this season.

If he becomes our new Burgess I'd be pretty happy!

My thoughts to, we have 4 CDM's alone and other midfielders, I'd have saved on a CDM and spent it elsewhere, but hey, it's not my money and I'm not the boss.

Where is this rapid LCB with premier league quality coming from?

Look through the other PL squads ... there are not a lot of these left footed unicorns around and when they appear, they end up at the top of the PL!!

He’s struggling more because of the frailties around him in the back line.Three players with poor records at the top table.

A unicorn wouldn’t have been any good. Players of the type would include Arthur Theate, Kevin Danso, António Silva (bit of a stretch), Juma Bah (more a development loan option, but super quick), Todibo. That’s just a few players who could have been no more difficult than Enciso or Palacios. But it’s not my job. Our recruitment team would have had info on all players. We could have ungraded had we prioritised it.

He’s definitely not a ball playing CB is he, dreadful passing tonight on the whole.

Plenty of experience at this level though I’m sure he’ll come good.

I have a concern that we’ve signed him a season or two too late.

Defence was all over the place early on, Greaves seems to be getting most of the blame but Diop CD DOS weren’t any better.

I’m worried we’ve signed a player whose best days are over tbh and we’ve got absolutely no one to replace him.

I think his long hoofs out of defence are awful, also Greaves gets a lot of the blame for him being out of position, I think we could have and should have signed a lot better

He waffled on for ages. If anyone managed to stay interested in, and could make sense of what he said, then they did better than me. I’d love Radio Suffolk to fund a different post match format

Each to their own I guess. Yes Mills is a bit monotone but IMHO he knows his onions, especially about defending.
