Johnson should have scored after a few minutes when he tried to clip it to our smallest player on the pitch. This won’t go well, he’s average a champ level and no way near PL level.

Ouattara is a great little player. I actually would like to see him further up and a cracking energetic CM but a lot of competition there.

Could he a fully end up ahead of Furlong or O'Shea with Fatawu out I wonder. Or Philogene comes in out there.

I think a degree of credit needs to go to the opposition when so many of our attackers have a “bad game”. They were crowded out very effectively. Everton excelled at getting bodies back into areas those players thrive in and congesting their route to goal.

Slightly frustrating as they were useless in possession at times so it does feel like there was an opportunity there. A couple of injuries and things could get interesting for them.

As I’ve been saying since 2024, people bang on and on about Premier League experience when the value and high ceiling is through these kind of academies graduates abroad as Sunderland proved last year. Ouattara is a signing out of the Sadiki and Diarra mold.

I’m talking about the bigger picture with Walton didn’t really have much to do today, their main chances were off target. It won’t end well for us him starting games in the Premier League.

I was thinking he'll probably (almost certainly) play RW when Fatawu is banned (is it just one game for two yellows?).

But I'd go back to O'Shea Diop Greaves Davis rather than bring Furlong in. That back 4 was pretty good against Palace.

Credit to Everton. A Moyles side knows how to defend, and we didn't test Pickford enough today. I think we showed excellent heart after going down to 10, and GON made aggressive and unpredictable substitutions, which was refreshing.

I've liked Ouattara each time he's played, but today he was our best player by far, with some good link-ups with Fats. For me, Ouattara needs to start RB against Fulham (I'd actually prefer Diop and Greaves at CD, but GON is not going to drop DOS).

With Fats out against Fulham, I'd play Enciso on the right, and have either Flemming or Akpom on the pitch with Emersonn. We appeared to play with two up front for the final 15 mins, when we were probably most threatening. At home, against Fulham, a very winnable goal, I don't see why you wouldn't go for more firepower up top, even if we have to switch formations as the game plays out.

So, for me, against Fulham it's:

Ouattara Diop O'Shea Davis

Lukic Palacios

Enciso Maeda

Akpom
Emersonn

But that's assuming the international break doesn't crock any of our lads

It would be annoying if the Fatawu sending off means he changes position and then he reverts back to DOS at RB after that for whatever reason.

I’d start Ouattara RB every game now and moving forward.

I know he didn't have a great game today, but I'd play Clarke against Fulham, and have Maeda on the right in Fatawu's place. Keep Ouattara at right back.

I'd also like to starting with eleven men rather than 10!

Pointofblue - I agree Ouattara nailed on at RB now.

And yes, I can easily see Maeda coming over to RW (as he did today) and Clarke starting at LW (as much as I think he is always better off the bench). That said, I'd still like to see more power up front for that game, so if that means moving Enciso to RW and having two strikers, that's what I think I'd do.

Actually I was thinking about the other wingers/10s, and Maeda is definitely the one most capable of playing either side.

We know from last season it didn't really work having Jack at RW and Jaden at LW. We also know that Egeli is better at 10 than RW (Mehmeti too, not that he's going to feature much this season). And the Leicester game showed that McAteer at LW doesn't work!

Oh, it certainly showed promise - more than promise actually, it was great including the link ups with both Diop inside and particularly Fatawu ahead - it's just that I think Ouattara can provide a similar sort of threat at RW to Fatawu, and we don't have anyone else who can and we want to be super aggressive against Fulham, right across the pitch, and the O'Shea Diop Greaves Davis back four had actually settled fairly nicely at Palace.

Medium term though, I'm rock hard for Ouattara and Fatawu down our rhs after seeing it today, unfortunately for Greaves, who I really like.

I do not rate him a starting goalkeeper at this level, that is correct and neither do the club, quite clearly. It’s not a slight on him, it’s a slight on our goalkeeping recruitment.

We all know Cristian Walton playing all season won’t be good enough for what we need in the Premier League, which is why the club have consistently tried to replace and find an upgrade on him (poorly).

In terms of the gamer in isolation, there wasn’t much for him to do at all, what he did have to do I think it was overly convincing but not a notable game for any keeper obviously.
