The problem with replacing a pragmatic manager like Moyes (Mccarthy, Dyche etc) is that the playing staff are all recruited because they fit that approach. So trying to pivot to a more pleasing on the eye style has a high chance of failing.
Fwiw, unless Everton reopen the chequebook that was there for previous managers, they really ought to stick with the safe option. |  |

The problem with the previous Everton chequebook was that a particular agent had his claws into the club, leading to vast expense on players which weren't very good and breaches of financial rules. While there has been change of ownership, they are still feeling the draught of that and the cost of building the new ground. |  |

They were promised a new stadium and a new era of signings to allow them to challenge for the Champions League.
Instead they have an ownership trying to sell their brightest and best to the highest bidder on deadline day.
Moyes is a victim of circumstance, but he has them unbeaten so far and away from relegation which is where previous expensive signing managers had them. [Post edited 21 Sep 9:47]

I think that is a case of BCWYWF right now. Their squad is paper thin beyond the starting XI and a handful of subs. They had 2 keepers on the bench on Saturday. He's a safe pair of hands who will make them hard to beat, I expect they'll finish somewhere between 10th and 15th which is what they need right now. West Ham fans wanted him gone too, now look at them.
Maybe the board have half on eye on life after Moyes and are keeping their powder dry for his replacement to spend some dough. I imagine they'll bore their way through the next 6 months and then it'll become pretty apparent Moyes is moving on at the end of his contract, and with enough love there between him and Everton fans after his 2 stints will mean it becomes a bit of a protracted goodbye rather than anything toxic. |  | | |

Yeah that's what I meant by starting XI and handful of subs, they basically have a core of about 15 / 16 who are still very strong. I'd imagine Moyes would want 3 or 4 beyond that, but right now its probably all they need if they can keep them fit. | | | |
