Israel v Ireland already going well then… on 18:22 - Sep 27 by vapour_trail
I disagree Matt.
You can call for a significant portion of the globe to be removed from the sporting arena if you want and you look hard enough.
The situation in Gaza, caused by the Israelis, is a genocide. That’s an outlier.
Some people are not bothered and that’s their prerogative.
There isn’t a genocide in Afghanistan.
Aside from that, there’s a cohort building a head of steam here, led by a bigot who posts sectarian nonsense against the Irish. I’m comfortable with my position on this.
Thanks for the reply - I don’t necessarily agree with your points but thanks for the reply.

I haven't really followed this thread, and don't understand the reason for your last comment, but isn't the main difference that the West did take action against Afghanistan by invading it and defeating the Taliban, only then to throw in the towel.
Similarly, it has taken action in relation to Russia and Iran, whether in the form of sanctions or otherwise.
But it doesn't take anything like the same action in relation to its allies such as Israel and Saudi Arabia for actions that they have taken that breached the "rules-based international order" that the West professes to support.
Indeed, the irony to me is that the sanctions belatedly imposed on Israel relate only to the West Bank, with at best crocodile tears in relation to what has happened in Gaza.
And if governments aren't prepared to act, what is so wrong about individuals and NGOs etc who feel strongly protesting?
Indeed, isn't the right to protest for whatever cause we want and in whatever way we see fit (as long as within the law) fundamental to our liberties?

Good to see Israeli reporters trying to take the heat out of the second leg match.
Heimir explaining about team unity and announcing Dara's leaving the squad. Next question is about the attempt by the co-pilot to down the Flydubai plane. When this is disallowed as a non soccer related question his colleague follows up with a question regarding Israeli players being called monkeys by Irish players ( completely made up ). Press Conference ends abruptly/abandoned and rightly so. I'm assuming UEFA are OK with the questioning and will fine Ireland for the premature ending.

From what I read about this, there was meant to be a UEFA delegate in the room but, for whatever reason, they were absent today.
No doubt nothing will be done, because Heimir didn't report it at the time, using the precise method of reporting.
