Interestingly, if you search for it now, the edited version is the predominant version and the one that everyone sees, you really have to search for the actual original.

what gain would the ad agency have in doing this deliberately. Possibly, maybe, some one leaving for a rival might have left a stink bomb behind for his employee to sort. But I doubt it. Pretty sure it is a trick of the eye, so you look at the ad and your eye follows the white edge of the star or white edge of the triangle to see the main focus Converses rather than towards the model. And the BBC are being a bit devious by not showing the full image. |  | | |

I would say it’s a mistake which has upset some people. Doesn’t have to be deliberate or “woke”. I would imagine that writing this from a position of being white, male and in the uk changes the interpretation.
For further context though, the fact a young black woman was found hanged in Mississippi earlier this year which is now being investigated for homicide would change the optics for others where they still have to live with the threat of the Klan in the 21st century. |  | | |

I agree that's a sensible solution in most cases such as the old 1970s stuff. These sketches though are parodying racism and are not really "outdated". Why do they have to butcher someone's art like that? |  |

I clicked the link and just scrolled straight to the picture before reading anything and weirdly I did instantly see and think, 'oh it looks like someone hanging' (just something about the angle of the shoes). However then you look for another second and see the person in the dress is holding them in their hand and realise it's nothing.
As with all things, assume incompetence or ignorance. I doubt an agency would deliberately style to make the picture resemble a lynching. Just one of those things that at a glance has the potential to look weird which wasn't picked up. |  | | |
