Alot of clubs are organising behind doors friendlies, this will have limited advantages with many first team members still away with their international squads, I think the form book will go out the window when we do restart. I think its fair to say the internationals in the squad will be far sharper than those who have been merely given meaningless friendlies over the past 3 weeks.

There are two things you can count on as a Town fan, thats we'll lose the immediate league game after resting for cups, and we'll lose after the international break, almost a certainty! We also seem to take twice of long to find our rhythm again as other clubs as well!

A truism if ever I read one.

International breaks might affect this, but I'm guessing that we probably have have fewer internationalists (to go by the standards of that Scotsman who used to be on the radio?) than the average PL club. On the bases of these two facts (I think they're facts anyway) we should have a nice bit of marginal gain going on over most or all of our opponents. Apologies if applying logic to it offends those who like to spout negativity for one reason or another.

We've got Fulham next who have half their team away at the moment, then Man City which is always going to be a tough irrespective of the circumstances. Hopefully our key players come back fit, that's the main thing. Be interesting to see what GON does on the right in Fatawu's absence, I think he might start Maeda there and keep Clarke on the left. Its a big game, would be a massive 3 points if we can get them.

I'm going for the X factor of Ouattara at RW, and revert to the original back four for this game only.

That's possible, or Billy Jean. McAteer I guess the more obvious choice positionally, but think GON might just favour the opportunity to get his better players out there. I've been so impressed with Ouattara, looks a quality player.

Fulham is huge. HUGE. Getting to 9 points before mid October will be very encouraging.

Fulham will be thinking the same, as they kinda were at this stage last time round and to be fair, we probably should have beaten them.

Im being flippant, not losing anyone to fitness challenge, and working with what we have left behind can only improve the peripheral players is my hope.

Innit. Really do have an opportunity to make some hay over the next 8 games (well, 7 of them. Etihad wont be fun). After these 8 / 13 games played after Cov away I'd say: 20+ points: Incredible 17 - 20: Very happy days 14 - 16: Decent enough, would be at least 1ppg from the next 8 and above 1ppg in total. 10 - 14: Disappointing, especially from where we are now. <10: We're fooked [Post edited 28 Sep 16:35]

That's not really statistically true. In 2025-26, we were W3 D2 L2 following cup matches or international breaks. Even in 2024-25, we were W1 D4 L3. In 2023-24 we were W7 D0 L3. If we take those three seasons together, Town have taken points from more than twice as many post-break/cup games as those where we got nothing, with a 44% win rate. In a 46-game season that would be equivalent to 71 points, on the margins of play-off form. Not particularly shabby.

I agree, Ouattara could do a job at RW if required. Quality footballer, will likely turn out to be our best signing this summer.

I think it is absolutely required for the Fulham game where we really want to take the game to them. Fatawu would have been perfect, and I can't see any of the other options (except maybe Philogene if he's on his game on his wrong side) providing the same sort of threat that an aggressive Ouattara looks very much like he would. Totally sold on Ouattara at RB after last week's game, but desperate to see us have maximum threat down both flanks against Fulham.

How long is Fatuwu banned for? Assume a second yellow is deemed less serious than a straight red? Definitely look light on the right don’t we. Outtara at RB leaves us with MacAtwer at RW? SWE for cover, albeit he’s struggled out wide. Maeda looked lost in the right too.

Just the one game for two yellow cards, I'm pretty sure. I know I'm going on minimal data, agitating for Ouattara at RW, but the gut feel is that he'll be so much of a better option there for this game than McAteer, or Maeda on the wrong side, or even Philogene on the wrong side. I'm just so desperate for us to take the game to Fulham and impose our forward play on them from the off. Ouattara on one side and Clarke+Davis on the other floats my boat.

Then there's those away on internationals. It's all a bit of a red herring this 'time on the training ground' stuff.
