| Loving Burnham's visions and promises 14:55 - Sep 29 with 23371 views | NthQldITFC | To paraphrase: "I may have to pay a political price, but I'm going to do these things that our country needs." Cue the usual, fossilised cynicism from both sides of the spectrum, but I have a good feeling about this bloke. It won't be possible to achieve everything, but I'd rather someone took a political risk and gave it a bloody good go - there's no point pissing around with an eye on five years time, we need some fundamental change based on all of us, first of all, providing a solid, social base, and developing responsibly from there where possible. | |

| Loving Burnham's visions and promises on 19:28 - Oct 9 by Swansea_Blue | He was good as an interviewer when constrained by the BBC codes, yet elsewhere has done as much as anyone in media to promote and legitimise the far right, climate change skepticism, and health conspiracy theories as anyone in his other positions. But a tough interviewer who actually challenged his ‘victims’, yes absolutely. An arsehole? Yes, absolutely. That’s not relevant to anything being discussed here other than I wouldn’t trust his views on any platform where he wasn’t constrained by strict impartiality codes. And I feel better for getting that off my chest. |
I find that really troubling Swansea. This point about 'legitimising' the far right. It's a total smear on a very experienced broadcaster who has no tendencies in that direction. No need to go there.

It was a while ago but he did employ David Irving: 'In 1992 Neil was criticised by anti-Nazi groups...and historians including Hugh Trevor-Roper...for employing the Holocaust denier David Irving to translate the diaries of Joseph Goebbels.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ But he's bounced around the place so much in his career it's difficult to nail him down as any one thing...apart from bombastic.

Yet it’s demonstrably true. He’s either hosted as editor or himself personally propagated through his columns views on holocaust denial (David Irving links as mentioned in a previous post), antisemitism (hosted self-styled antisemite Taki Theodoracopulos and claiming live on air that Jews are comparable to pigs), denial of the links between HIV and AIDS while editor at the Times hampering efforts to educate the vulnerable, a non-stop barrage of misinformation and undermining of UK climate change targets. And I could go on but he’s not worth it. No doubt this all falls under the the auspices of “free speech” though.

The Holocaust was made up buh. Just a load of woke nonsense. Bombastic is certainly on point. You don’t have to look too hard to see what makes him tick though. But as I said, he could be an excellent professional when required.

To be fair whatever his views, Irving is an expert on ww2 German personalities with unimpeachable access to source material and witnesses. Soon debunked the Hitler Diaries back in the day which embarressed The Times (?) who bought the serializing rights

Always enjoyed Taki's "High Life" column in The Spectator, and of course Jeffrey Bernard's "Low Life" column. Can't remember him coming across as anyi-semitic at the time.

Harold Shipman was probably a good doctor, Rolf Harris a good children’s entertainer and Ian Watkins a rock idol. None of that counts for much when you cross the rubicon into the unacceptable. (PS. I’m not relating crimes/failures, but hopefully you get the point. People can be simultaneously good and bad). [Post edited 9 Oct 23:05]

| Loving Burnham's visions and promises on 09:00 - Oct 9 by DanTheMan | Just a note on that last bit Ryorry, whilst not quite the same, the NHS app has basically all of that. |
The app that doesn't work because it/those behind it say it's impossible to delete an old email address that's now defunct, which means that I can't use the app because it won't recognise me/my new email so I can't log in. And the services/futureappointments tab at my GPs' medical centre fails to list my future appts. at the centre ...
