Don't forget they're a tiny nation population-wise, around 3.9 million - smaller than Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, not much bigger than Wales. For them to have achieved what they have on the world stage (World Cup final and semi-final) is incredible and a testament to their footballing culture. They used to call the Yugoslavians the Brazilians of Europe, and of all the ex-Yugoslav nations it was the Croatians who took up that mantle.
But these things are cyclical when your population is that small and fallow periods are inevitable. |  | | |
