• China: Executes thousands annually (more than the rest of the world combined).
• Iran: At least 2,159 recorded executions.
• Saudi Arabia: At least 356 recorded executions.
• Yemen: At least 51 recorded executions

Not strictly true on the humanity front. If carried out by the English measured drop method, it's pretty much just as quick, works effectively the same as a decapitation, just without actually separating the head.
The mode of hanging replaced by the guillotine in France in the late 18th century was different, rather slower and more gruesome (as was also the case in Britain until the 1870s). | |
