| America is lost - part 3757345 on 22:10 - Oct 16 by Dubtractor | How on earth did someone as incredibly awful as Trump end up president, twice? America really is lost. Trump: "You have Mohammed, Mohammed, Mohammed, Mohammed, Mohammed. Everybody is basically. If you're in doubt about somebody's name from the Middle East, just say 'Mohammed.' You have about a 65% chance." — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2026-10-16T21:02:07.189Z |
I feel really stupid asking this question, but how is a president overthrown by his party. Our lot seem to have it down to a fine art, whether Labour or Conservative, but Trump is still in power?

| America is lost - part 3757345 on 22:25 - Oct 16 by Dubtractor | Honestly, I think he really is just a massive c#nt. Mental illness is making excuses for him just being a massive c#nt, which he has been all of his life, it's just that there is no filter there any more. |
Maybe. He's always been an arsehole, so that could be the end of it. But I'd argue he's got to be a shoe in for a narcissist, antisocial personality disorder and an outside chance of a sociopath too. And then there's the big criminal and civil cases for sexual abuse, corruption, fraud, election interference, unlawfully retaining national defence information and alleged obstruction. But apart form all that he seems ok, yeah?

Gut-wrenchingly, embarrassing obeisance in the main. They're mostly still all sucking up to him as they believe he's still the route to their meal tickets. He's been impeached twice already (another 'first' for Donald) and that didn't work. We'd still need Senate to kick him out off the back of that, but the tribal loyalty is still in place. That's why the mid-terms are so important because if they change the majority in the Senate, then potentially yes, impeachment followed by a Senate vote could kick him out (but Senate needs a silly majority - it's like 60-70% or something so still unlikely). They've got an Amendment that allows them to declare a president unfit to perform his duties, but again it's like a 2/3rd majority in the House and Senate needed to see it through, so unlikely again. The republicans could persuade him to go (cf. Nixon), but they're still blowing smoke up his bum, so that's unlikely too. I think we're stuck with him, but he'll have his wings clipped if the mid-terms go against him as projected. He'll then either try a repeat of the 6th Jan insurrection and double down and try to force control.or he'll end up a lonely, bitter old man ranting against the world on his own social media channel while everyone ignores him. (PS. Some of that may be a bit hazy in details and not exactly correct!). [Post edited 16 Oct 22:58]

Yes you're more or less correct I believe. I think you need a two-thirds vote in the Senate after impeachment to actually convict (i.e. remove) a sitting President. Never going to happen because they all essentially vote along party lines and the Senate is almost 50/50. He literally could shoot someone dead in broad daylight on Fifth Avenue and survive the vote.

He can't be really, as he's not in position as leader of the party, because he's directly elected. There is no 'leader' pf the Republican or Democrat party in the way we have it here.
