| Walton not good enough 15:45 - Oct 17 with 8251 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | You need your keeper to be having a worldie at the Ethiad to have any chance, but for all that hard work we are putting in as outfield players and managed to get back into game. Both looked savable but Jesus that second, not good. | |

Your last sentence is the main problem and that’s obviously not on him.

| Walton not good enough on 18:35 - Oct 17 by ITFC_Forever | Marking on Foden should be better for the first. Unfortunate with the second. Ouattara should sort his feet out for the third. Walton also made several good saves in the game. |
Greaves was partially at fault for the second. He drifted away from Haaland towards the goal, Haaland then takes a big step backwards to increase the space between him and Greaves, making himself an easier target for the crosser. Then has the space to attack the ball and head it with power. Greaves then stuck in no mans land and watches the ball whizz past him. Classic number 9 goal.

| Walton not good enough on 19:01 - Oct 17 by Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | I’m behind anyone wearing the shirt but doesn’t mean you can’t voice your concerns as a fan after a performance. As for GON comments, you can’t surely believe that! He was starting against Bayern and Galatasaray in the CL last year, the data had obviously told us he was going to be the answer for this season but he was then dropped on form. Personally, I had concerns as soon as I saw his height, in terms of even that might of meant for athleticism. CW hasn’t been our starter for any of the last 3 seasons, whatever league we are in or whoever is the manager. [Post edited 17 Oct 19:02]

Oh dear, are you now calling our manager a liar, Joey? For what it's worth, I agree Scherpen was dropped too soon, I'm sure he'll come back stronger for it. I also think Scherpen is the better keeper but Walton hasn't been as bad as you and others make out and I think until he has a real howler and the defence lose confidence in him (or injury as he is quite injury prone) we should get behind him. He wasn’t our #1 for one of those three because of his long-term injury. Leaving that out makes you look rather biased.

I think many mangers will always say what they thinks best in the press for the current situation for the players and club as a whole. You think Scherpen was brought into be a back up? Lol Weird, I never heard that this summer!

I will happily call him a liar. No chance walton was seen as our number 1 keeper for this season. I have no issue with him fibbing tho. Its a confidence game isnt it.

Errr no, he was on the bench v Brum and v Sunderland to open the last two seasons. So he was fit enough to play, you wouldn’t put an injured keeper on the bench. He actually played v Liverpool as Muric pulled up but he was out of the side as soon as Muric was fit. So he was not our number one going into any of our last three seasons, that is factually correct.

I'm not sure how you can say that with such confidence, don't forget Walton was injured when O'Neil joined us. So if O'Neil came in with an open mind and wanted to see the players before making up his mind what you said can't be true. Scherpen was obviously bought in as someone who could be the number 1 but a healthy squad should have two people challenging for every position. Edit - we also bought Scherpen for I think less than £10 million, which is pretty low for a PL player even for the GK position these days an out and out number 1 is way more expensive than that [Post edited 17 Oct 19:43]

I can say it with utmost confidence as we purchased Muric and Palmer to be number 1 instead of walton. We then purchased another keeper in the summer who had been playing top level football. Plus the fact walton has shown he is not a prem quality keeper. I can be as certain the same way you are happy to say obviously... Scherpen fee. Didnt we pay £10 mill for muric. Who was signed as number 1. Also. Walton had 1 year left on his deal. He only signed a new deal when scherpen was dropped. Also. Are you leaving 1st team weekly football. Championsleague appearences etc to be 2nd fiddle. Yes i know. Compete for shirt. But being a keeper you already know if you are likely number 1 or not. [Post edited 17 Oct 19:57]

TBF you can only really judge GON from when he arrived not any of the Vaz, Muric or Palmer stuff. Although I am sure he was very much aware CW hasn’t been genuine nailed on number 1 since the L1 promotion. Maybe it was a true competition this pre season if both were fit. However, I don’t think there was any other plan than Scherpen being our first choice, when coming from a CL outfit like USG, for that fee with all the Brighton data. When it comes to keepers maybe we should use the eye test a little more then just data. [Post edited 17 Oct 19:58]

Of course but youll also sit down with recruitment team. Coaching staff etc. If those felt like walton was number 1 then we wouldnt have gone for the previous keepers. We certainly wouldnt have gone for scherpen. Wed have walton. Palmer and the lad out on loan as the three battling for the spot.

| Walton not good enough on 20:07 - Oct 17 with 541 views | WolfieAtTheBack | Leeds recruited well with James Trafford this summer, 40m + fee is where you need to be in terms of recruiting a top stopper who can play out from the back too. The kicking now seems as important as doing the actual saving. I am sure the recruitment team know this. Remember we have the GK in Spain on loan who might work out. | | | |

The fact this has got 10 upvotes really does highlight the state of this! Graham Le Saux literally said one for the cameras for the second, perfect height, every keeper saves them, WTF they weren’t worldie saves. A worldie save is like the Bristol or Milwall keeper made against Azon last year. These were just bog standard goal keeping for shots at perfect height outside the box. Yet no criticism for the ones conceded. Man it’s pretty delusional! [Post edited 17 Oct 20:11]

Big English tax on that though, there’s been a lot of successful recruitment from the continent for a lot less.

GON will already know about him and more than likely have contacts that do. That's probably the level required to avoid any more GK problems.

Smart and important save. Certainly one you’d hope he’d make. Outtarra really won us the game if we were going there, a spectacular strike from nowhere that changed everything.

Yes, we should definitely have been tighter on Haaland for the second. Letting the best striker in the world drift off you when a cross is about to come is poor concentration.
