For anyone wondering, I’m back home now and she has obviously apologised and is currently cooking a slow cooked curry as it’s my favourite. I get it looks bad and I probably am at fault for oversharing on here in the midst of it but we’ve been on and off for 4 years and I can’t see a world where she’s not the mum to my kids in the next 2 or 3 years. Alls well that ends well folks. I do wonder though if I can get compensation? More than just the £16 train ticket I mean. It’s lucky I had today booked as holiday as otherwise I’d have had to have take a day off work. Can I claim a few quid out of this to have me stranded for basically 7-8 hours. Had I taken the hotel option I still wouldn’t have been home til lunchtime today as well seeing as the trains still weren’t back sorted and the taxi firms still weren’t playing ball. It’s just fortunate that the customer service dude helped me out and made the booking from the hotel. So the taxi firms wouldn’t have assumed I was a football lout which seemed to be why they after 12 just started cancelling everyone’s bookings from the station. Insane really

The transport wasn't needed until after 10, and it will have been clear there was a chance of issues all day to have got alternatives on standby. [Post edited 24 Oct 15:32]

Three Nottingham Forest fans were there last night sent to the hotel at 3:15am. Two were drunk and angry and the other was an old boy on his own with a massive limp. There’s absolutely no way he should’ve been stood in a train station for 6 hours, then sent to a hotel and then still completely unaware of exactly what was happening. I had to help him while I was in the foyer because he thought he had a taxi coming still back to Nottingham. Terrible

Articles 15 to 18 of the regulations in the attached link deal with compensation etc. https://www.legislation.gov.uk And here is a link to the guidance on those regulations. https://www.gov.uk/government/ I haven't looked that closely at them but I would have thought, in such difficult circumstances, that the rail company has done all it can in first offering you a hotel and then ordering a taxi to get you home. That is not to say that I don't fully sympathise with your plight, and that of all others affected, but I chose to book accommodation for the night fearing disruption on the railways and/or closure of the Dartford Crossing when it came to my journey home: I normally park at Shenfield for night games. And I managed to get the 08.24 from Ipswich and the delayed 08.45 from Colchester this morning. The only downside was that it was full of Norwich fans on their way to Charlton. Sometimes sh*t just happens. And you certainly got more than your fair share last night. [Post edited 24 Oct 16:30]

They do; but many coach companies steer clear of it as it’s more hassle than it’s worth.

I assume getting out coach drivers at that time of night would be an issue too. Imagine saying to your staff "you can go out tonight but you can't drink and might have to cut short your night out", and all for a contingency that might never happen. [Post edited 24 Oct 16:16]

If it happens again, maybe facetime her with the station clearly visible in the background and rain running down your face. |
If only there was some other way in 2026 that someone could look up what is happening with train services

| No trains to London on 06:45 - Oct 25 with 1112 views | LegendofthePhoenix | Gary O'Neil and Mark Ashton have both said this season how important the fans have been to the on-field performances. So it would be quite helpful if Mark Ashton could ramp up the pressure on Greater Anglia to improve the train services. And when I say improve, what I mean is that they actually take notice of the football fixtures and ensure that there are trains running after football matches. It's the Premier League ferchissakes. Can't the train operators pay some attention to the real world? They only have to look at how busy the station is after any home match and acknowledge that a few thousand fans every game rely on the trains. It simply is not acceptable to have no trains after a game. And don't try to use the lame excuse that timetables are published months ahead, it is possible to put on extra trains - other countries manage it. If they can't, then maybe the Premier League should not allow Sky etc to reschedule matches. If the fans matter, avoidable messes like this should never happen. | |

But we're talking about the coach industry here and an incident that occurred late at night. Indeed, following through the logic, every rail operator in the south of England should have had contingency arrangements in place late on Friday night just in case an incident occurred which strikes me as being a nonsense. No, only on a night which is forecast to be stormy, where it’s guaranteed that several thousand people will be needing to get home from one particular location to the capital + a major midlands city + a handful of other local towns, at one pinpointed time. It would be cheaper and quicker to set contingencies up in advance than react belatedly on the night. (And a lot better for their image & PR pr, haha).

Let's not forget the trains were fecked after Liverpool as well. There have only been two evening home games in the league, so Greater Anglia have a 100% feck-up rate so far!

It’s almost as though UK PLC doesn’t want to bother with silly things like logic and thinking ahead, thereby saving themselves sackfuls of dosh innit. Imagine the difference in cost between coach drivers on standby, even if at unsocial hours premium rate, and footing the bill for thousands of taxis and hotel rooms. They must have known the approximate numbers from ingoing tickets bought.

Not sure they can do anything about the storm? Assuming that was the reason for no trains on Friday…

Not fans anymore, customers. Customers don't matter because there will be plenty of day trippers to take their place.

Mark Ashton won’t get anywhere with train services or buses etc. They march to the best of their very broken drum these days, paying attention to only the bottom line. I had a nightmare travelling back from Glasgow a couple of months ago with Avanti. They cancelled my train, the two before it and severe later in the day. It was a disgraceful cattle truck ride to Carlisle. Then somewhere else. Turfed out before Birmingham, got home eventually. Other passengers on the misery express said it was like that three weeks in four. In other words, if you take money for tickets your income is nicely fixed and stashed. If you then cut trains out your costs are reduced considerably thus increasing profit for shareholders. Everyone’s a winner ……bar the poor saps trying to use the service. Where he or whoever is responsible for this sort of thing at the football club might get some traction is through the local MP. I say that because where I live (Kent), the MO was very instrumental in getting a train service to run to Charing X in addition to Victoria and Blackfriars. She also took the trouble to respond to me over the disgraceful postal service here. Not that it’ll change anything. Privatisation anyone?
