Convinced the staff at greater Anglia that me staying in a hotel wouldn’t be of use as I’d still have to travel via Cambridge tomorrow which would’ve taken forever. And as such, they changed my booking for the taxi to Romford to the Ipswich hotel we were all sent to.
I can happily say at 4:20am it arrived and as of 10 minutes ago so did I in soggy rainy Romford.
The driver of the taxi was an Ipswich fan and even let me back in after my missus refused to let me come home believing I was out drinking and then had booked a hotel to do naughty stuff. He then took me round to my dear old mum who did let me in. Lovely bloke and at least in this time of pure ridiculousness of the last 8 hours, I’ve seen some good old fashioned human decency. |

Without going into too much detail, she has somewhat paranoia from a past relationship regarding partners going out and then staying out in a hotel.
Whilst I did try to keep her updated, there’s only so many times I can say ‘there’s a taxi coming at some point’ before it’s inevitably cancelled by the agency Greater Anglia were using for everyone. Somewhat disheartening to then say I again have zero idea if and when I’ll be back. Eventually I said they’re saying there’s no more taxi attempts being made and they’re forcing everyone left into a hotel and she just didn’t take it well.
Sure it’ll be fine eventually. Just a sh*t night and greater Anglia refusing to run any kind of bus replacement service is the main issue for me | |

No way in the world that they don't have contingency arrangements/contracts in place for events like this.
The transport wasn't needed until after 10, and it will have been clear there was a chance of issues all day to have got alternatives on standby. [Post edited 24 Oct 15:32]
