And I'm just seeing Philogene being written off all over the shot and given loads of grief. Not his best game, can happen. Especially against a team like forest who defend quite low and break fast. Fatawu struggled just as much but not seeing anything (and I'm glad about that).

Why do we always have to pick on a player to do down unless they are bang at it. This league is really hard when the team aren't on top for attacking players to stand out.

Loving how this entire team have performed so far!

There are always people who get a kick out of running people down, often in my experience it's due to deficiencies in their own life or their own self esteem. Seen it too often on this forum. Some were doing last night during the game and as soon as the final whistle went, they couldn't wait!

Did Jaden have his best game? No, but neither did the majority of the team. He's still coming back from injury, will take him time to get going. GON started him, which in my eyes says more than any of the naysayers here as he sees him much more than any of these fabled arm chair critics.

Poll: At what price would you sell our 32 year old Leading Scorer Murphy this summer?

At a guess, probably has quite a lot to do with him giving the impression in the summer (via his agent) that he thinks he's too good for us.

You're always going to be on shaky ground with fans if it looks like your ego's writing cheques your "feet" can't cash...

So far yet to show much at PL level for us either this season or last time out.

I think agents across the land are doing the same thing every window. It's their job. Philogene's agent has been a tool from day one.

If Philogene got a great offer might he have left. Yes. Like a lot of players. They get one career. I don't see him like a Leif Davis that has fallen in love with the club.

However - the key bits for me were:

1. There has never been a single point he has tried to force anything.
2. In fact the reports were Philogene came back in good shape and was applying himself exceptionally well in training. This was commented on internally.
3. He has never let us down
4. He could have gone when we were relegated. He could have done what Omari did but he stayed and more so he was a huge part of getting us back to the prem.

Has one off night (if you can massively call it that) and he gets a load of grief. Same people that would go mad if he wanted to leave. Go figure.

Think that’s a very generous characterization of what happened in the summer.

FWIW though I don’t really care personally what happened and I hope he plays well this season - but inevitably he’s going to be on a shorter leash with most fans because of what’s happened previously.

quire right. His old agent was feeding the transfer gossip columns like a good 'un looking for a bite. Why buy a third left sided wide player (Maeda) unless the Town hierarchy expected either Clarke or Philogene to go. Philogene was not involved in the earlier friendlies at all which suggests that something was brewing that did not materialize.

I'm inclined to agree with you, that there may have been more going on than was public knowledge.

I think it's more than a coincidence that the announcement that Philogene was happy to stay coincided with an injury that kept him out of action until the window closed, and could well have scuppered any potential moves.

Not a prophet, or a stone-age man; just a mortal with potential of a superman.

We don't know his motivations. People seem happy to fill in the blanks and assume the worst.

Maybe he wanted to play in the Champions League? I think he was being linked with Turkish clubs.

Maybe he was gutted McKenna was leaving and wanted to explore his options?

Maybe he just wanted to see what his options were?

It really doesn't matter. We should stop being so sensitive that players want to maximise their potential and earnings. In January and the summer there will be threads about who we can upgrade. It's a two way thing and football is ruthless.

Whatever happened, he is still here wearing our badge on his shirt. I'm sure O'Neil made a point of praising his attitude recently and clearly he is showing commitment in training etc.

He hasn't been decent this season so far when he's appeared.Doesn't look up to it to me. And yes, I think Fatawu might have been even worse last night! To think someone like Maeda is wasting his time on the bench when he's better than either of them. As for the season thus far, yep we've done really well, last nights second half not withstanding.

Fair enough.

All those lines about him telling us he wants out and the various sound bites must have just appeared on Fabrizio Romano’s desk by magic then.

All those lines..there was next to nothing but as normal regurgitated.

His agent who is a very busy sort was clearly actively testing waters and that agent had moved agency so even less surprise. 85â„… of footballers are probably open to a move if a bigger club comes in. Some agents are more respectful than others. As i said though Jaden himself has been professional. I do believe he was open to going. Oneill confirmed he spoke to him and had only good indications and from the conversations did not believe he would go and he hasn't. Baffling that grown men are holding a weird grudge.

Have a look back at how Jack Clarke left Sunderland. Their fans were absolutely sick of Ian Harte his agent touting him around. Clarke was also professional but it was the same. Its football unfortunately and its these lads careers which are short. Its when the players stop being professional there is a problem.

Maybe the bloke whose name sounds like a domino’s pizza has to earn a living by picking up rumours, hot takes, gossip and voices in his head to make a living. ‘No smoke without fire’ isn’t always a truism.

Philogene appears quite a private man. It’s not a crime. Not everyone is an extrovert like say Harry Clarke or Julio Encisco. Ok, he’s had fitness issues and is in competition for a starting place. He will earn it or he won’t. As long as he gives 100%, even if he has a poor game, he deserves support, not abuse.

Same for all the players. Criticism is one thing. We all go through life with that. But when it strays into Muric and Hirst abuse territory, to me that’s out of order/OTT.

Those who get all excited by piling on to players who are not in a position to answer back, go away. There are plenty of people who want to see us play and can’t at the moment who do not see abuse as productive or helpful in any shape or form.
