| Egeli and the fringe players 22:07 - Oct 25 with 3273 views | unstableblue | Feel sorry for Egeli for not making the matchday squad, same as at City. Nunez gets a bench place against Forest I thought he looked bright in the 15 mins he got from the bench against Fulham. On the fringes. And with Matusiwa fit and Lukic soon to be back - his route into the team looks unlikely. Despite him being a replacement for Fatawu or Enciso. Fit again Taylor, Mehmeti and McAteer seem even further away. Still it’s a long season and injuries creep in and form changes. | |

Nunez got it because Lukic was injured

| Egeli and the fringe players on 05:48 - Oct 26 with 2647 views | WolfieAtTheBack | I have been watching last seasons highlights a bit recently. He is only very young still but not sure Egeli is going to be a PL / European cup level player, he really struggles to cross and pass the ball consistently, in saying this he does have some nice touches and the occasional sweet finish. The coaches have a bit of a head puzzler on their hands with this players development and basically what to do with him next season when he is over 21 and counts as a squad player. | | | |
| Egeli and the fringe players on 07:06 - Oct 26 with 2496 views | Nutkins_Return | We've been very fortunate on injuries so far but we'll get them and some of these players will come into the picture. Was really curious why Egeli didn't play against Anderlecht for the u21s particularly as he is a really u21 so wouldn't count as an average player. That's a decent level of competition for keeping fit and sharp. | |

| Egeli and the fringe players on 07:26 - Oct 26 with 2426 views | ThatMuhrenCross | He needs to go out on loan in January. Needs to be playing competitive men’s football on a regular basis—ideally in the number 10 role. The talent is there. | |

It's just the man management merry go round. Keeping everyone going in training by rewarding each of them with a spot on the bench occasionally. Mcateer been on the bench in PL games 3 times, Egeli 3 times, Matusiwa 3 times, Nunez 4 times.

Not sure that is his position, can he do what Enciso does, no way. He is not a wide player either as he can't cross. I don't think the coaching staff or the player himself actually knows what his position is or what to do with him. GON had him playing midfield in the summer for example. It's an odd one.
| Egeli and the fringe players on 09:03 - Oct 26 with 2105 views | BloomBlue | Its a 25 squad game. Even if we sell a few/send out on loan in the Jan window their replacements or some of the current team will find themselves out of match day squad, we cannot name 25 in the match day squad. Egeli is still learning the game, I'm sure he's desperate to get into the squad, but that's what we need. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Egeli and the fringe players on 09:09 - Oct 26 with 2069 views | Garv | Mehmeti is the one out of those I particularly like so it's a shame he's so far away from game time, but not surprising. That he would be seen to be a pretty high end Championship player but can't even get in a matchday premier league squad, says a lot about our business. | |

Actually, he can cross and deliver the ball accurately too, but he had a phase later last season which sticks in the mind of chipping the ball in where before he was swinging it in. He was also knocking some glorious full pitch switches across fairly regularly. I think it may have been something he was asked to do for some reason and got a little hung up with it. I think it was more about uncertainty with him last season. He looked like he'd got more fire in his belly, and less of that uncertainty pre-season, and I think if he can switch himself into confident, aggressive mode he could be a decent counter attacking, ball carrying 10 in the PL, I think he'd be better at that than where he's asked to make things happen from a wide position. But whether he'll get a chance is another matter. I'd have him at first change for Enciso, and I think he'd be more effective in there on the counter against better opponents than against weaker ones.

We bought him based on the fact he COULD turn out good and frankly make a big profit. We did similar things with Ahadme, Al Hamadi, Delap and Hutch to some extent. You could even thrown McAteer in with that, as he was a punt, and to be fair he improved no end under McKenna. Take a young player, get McKenna to coach him, push him into the team and see if it works. He was already playing at a standard far lower than the Championship before we signed him, so he did extremely well with the step up last season, but he's not a Premier League player. The only reason I can see that we didn't loan him out to a top end Champ side is that we didn't recruit enough of what we wanted in that area, but he was never going to regularly feature.

| Egeli and the fringe players on 10:25 - Oct 26 with 1883 views | franz_tyson | I would say Akpom has edged himself ahead of Egeli as well as Nunez. It's what so many of us have been saying.... he needs a loan. He didn't have a great season in the Championship ( understandable.. he's learning) but he looked better in the preseason.... yet he's still a way off. If he plays a few nice passes in a 15 min cameo... his fans go absolutely crazy and start talking as if he's a wonder kid. He needs to get away from those fans and as well as the moaners. I think it would do him good a change of scenery and regular games at a lower level. | | | |

I tend to disagree, although he may well blossom into a fantastic player there is so much to do with him to even get him going a bit before he can be considered a PL player. Finding him a position and training him there I guess is the first action, this sounds harsh but maybe he should train with the first team but play in the under 21s whilst they build him up. He is never a 10 in the PL, maybe in the championship he could do some of the role with a few years behind him of playing games and getting his confidence but he is no where near. He seems a good lad and I really hope it works out for him here or elsewhere.
| Egeli and the fringe players on 10:58 - Oct 26 with 1760 views | strikalite | As said he has time on his side, no doubt just being around and training with the top players we now have will help him and hopefully he'll get minutes too at some stage, but the harsh reality with many of our fringe players now is that the step up is so big and there's zero room for sentiment or "squad fillers" if we want to compete at this level, we've totally raised the bar this time and we pretty much know where we must strengthen next time and who will make way. | | | |

I can't see us letting him out on loan unless he's replaced in the squad as cover for the positions he can play (or will feature in the FA Cup). With the best will in the world, I don't think we want to risk suddenly being reliant upon Mehmeti or one of the Youths in an emergency.

He absolutely looks like a top 10. Doesn't have to do it the same way as Enciso. Egeli has better vision and passing range then Enciso. Enciso has much better dribbling and penetration with his speed. Both have quality shots on them. Egeli reminds me more of a De Bruyne type. Can play a killer pass, shoot and spread play around effortlessly. Still developing his physicality. Good to have different options there.

Ha yes, keep a few sweet, say thanks, then give some of them the boot in January. More a reality of life for those on the end of it. PL in particular is cut throat isn't it?
| Egeli and the fringe players on 18:23 - Oct 26 with 1019 views | Swansea_Blue | Needs a loan in Jan. I wasn’t sure in the summer whether loan or sub appearances would be best for him, but if we’re not going to use him he needs to go out to get regular football. | |

I can't get on board with much of that my friend. He is not a 10 and he certainly is not a De Bruyne clone. More Chris De Burgh. [Post edited 26 Oct 18:39]

| Egeli and the fringe players on 18:44 - Oct 26 with 934 views | bournemouthblue | Mehmeti looked okay against Arsenal in the cup, I'm not saying he's the longer term answer but he's probably our next best option after Enciso in the traditional 10 role If you are going more for two up top in the Flemming and Akpom combo, fair enough but I wouldn't completely rule him out currently, even if he does need a move in January A few are likely to move in January even if it's loan, we have a slightly weird scenario where we have a few players it would be strategically useful to keep should we drop back down to the Championship but that's probably not how we are looking to operate now | |
