I've managed to narrow it down to being one of two - either 3-1 vs Birmingham or 2-0 vs Forest, both in March 1983.

I was only 5 at the time and I remember my Dad took me to one of them and my older sister to the other, but neither of us can remember which way round it was!

Easter 1959: A win v Middlesboro. With my dad and 5 uncles and cousins in the Chicken shed. Couldn't believe the atmosphere and was hooked from then on.

Medically, I have an appalling memory. My wife genuinely has to do the remembering of names, places, occasion etc for the both of us

But I'll never forget my first town game. Micky Stockwell's testimonial against Robson's FC Porto. Can't for the life of me remember what year that was though. 95 maybe?

I struggle to remember games I watched from 2006-2019, because I like many others zoned out haha!

Ironically, the games I’d like to remember I can’t, 2006-19 I’d like to forget but I can’t.

Throw in the misery of Duncan and Harbey era - I’d like forget much of that too, but somehow being trampled on at home by Plymouth in 87 or 88 with about 10000 other sufferers keeps re-emerging.

Mind you, it wasn’t as bad as most of the Keane-2019 dross, excluding a season or two.

I can remember my first game mainly because I was made a big fuss of. Right over the half way line, West Stand on padded seats. My grandad knew one of the Directors. I recall walking from the car, scarf, rosette and pin badge bought for me on the corner of NS and the Chicken Run and looking up at the massive stands. We walked past NS to our entrance. It looked massive.

The senses were overwhelmed - the people, the noise, everything. Up the stairs and that shock of green pitch contrasting to that rather gloomy February day. I was hooked.

We beat Cardiff 4-2 that day in early 1968. I remember nothing of the game whatsoever. I was 8 years old.

The games after that are a bit of a jumble and I’m not entirely sure what games I did see until around 1972. The memory plays tricks too. It wasn’t many because we didn’t live in the area and Saturday school restricted opportunities.

But my love of the game was cemented that day in 1968. The programme, scarf and pin badge are long gone, but I still have the rosette with the score written neatly on the back by my dad, even if the blue ribbon has discoloured to purple.

Those padded seats were nice, had them occasionally if my father was doing something corporately with the club. But usually it was the west stand season ticket wooden bench with a padded cushion rented for 2p

Absolutely no idea what my first game was, Not even certain what season it was. But it was probably 70/71 as a suck it and see if I liked it. I liked it and my father and I got a season ticket for the following season, The only reason I think my first season ticket season was 71/72 was when we took our places in the old West Stand, facing us was the newly built East Stand which came as asurprise to me. Because it was narrower then (they did not complete the wings until later,) it looked massively and impressively tall to my child eyes.
Going with my father for the next 38 years might not have seemed very cool in my teenage years, but it certainly bonded our father/son relationship well through my 30s and 40s, years; years when fathers and sons can drift apart. When my son became about 7 he started coming too, before my father dropped out because of old age. And now me and my son are continuing that family tradition.

My first that I can remember was the Cup match in 63/64 season against Stoke City who had Stanley Matthews playing. My grandmother's female friend took me along as, for some reason her husband could not make it. Our seats were in the old East stand chicken run somewhere close to the halfway line so a brilliant view for an eight year old.

I can't remember the exact match... or even the exact season when my first game was. I did get to see a few games in the 80/81 season, but unsure whether I had before then or not.
Mind you, sometimes I don't even remember what I've gone in the kitchen for, so it's not surprising.

I’m interested as to how you came to attend your first game - was it something you asked to do or did someone just assume you wanted to go and took whether you wanted to or not?

I first attended a football match with my Dad at Roots Hall because my Dad, who had no interest in football played in the brass band that entertained the crowd at half time. I have no idea whatsoever of the score or who they were playing. I guess it would have been about 1970 which makes me about three at the time.

Several years later I pestered my dad for months to take me watch Town - I remember everything about it because I looked forward to it for weeks.

Ipswich 0 - Wolves 0 fourth round of the FA cup, 24 Jan 1976. It snowed heavily on the way home and we had fish and chips for tea.

Definitely can't remember mine.

it was apparently to Hull at home and Ipswich lost 1-0 to a Brian Gayle OG.....! (so I'm told)

Google searching it it looks like April 1990 so i'd have been 4!

The first games I do remember are the ones in the promotion 91/92 season, especially those Liverpool FA Cup games.

I'm far from 100% on this but I think 9th Oct 1990, Shrewsbury in the league cup under the lights at FPR in the league cup. 3 nil win.

I dont remember it as I'm told I fell asleep. I was 8.

29th March 1994 v Man City at home.

Mum got me and her tickets from one of the local off licences in Dovercourt. Sat in the Cobbold stand lower near the North Stand. Everything about it is so vivid in my memory. The smell of the burger vans. The huge Fisons dot matrix scoreboard. Seeing players I’d watched on TV in the flesh before my eyes. Just fell in love there and then. Game finished 2-2. Guentchev and Linighan for us. Walsh and Rösler for City.

It’s weird how many things in life have happened since that 8 year old tubby ginger kid went to his first game. And yet the memory of it is as clear as day.

1985 Ipswich 5 Stoke 1 - Kevin Wilson hat trick and Dad was desperate to get me in a photo at the front of Churchman’s with Eric Gates taking a corner in the background. Paul Cooper beat the ground with his fist after conceding the goal Stoke scored. Name read out over the tannoy at half time but didn’t hear it.

Not long before Dad took me to Brighton who were our local club - but for Kevin Wilson I’d probably have ended up a Brighton fan.

But I can remember quite a lot about it!

I must have been a week or so before or after then, sure it was March or early April 1994.

Town 1 - QPR 3. Remember my dad telling me we needed to be careful of Ray Wilkins and he subsequently ran the game. Think Les Ferdinand scored a brace, Def got 1. Bontcho scored ours late on.

We went to the following home match against Coventry and sat in the North Stand. Lost 2-0 and there was a biblical hail storm. (It’s a little less romantic that my first game story but is a rather prophetic considering the next 32 years 🤣)

What I definitely remember:
I was 10
It was an evening game
John Hutcheson got Dad and I the tickets
We were in a stand behind a goal
It was noisy and thrilling (to me at least) and at times angry from the fans in our area
Town won
We were playing a team who wore stripes
"Falling in love", as Bobby put it.

What I THINK I remember:
It was Feb '68 vs Palace (3-1 win)
We were in the North Stand (were kids even allowed in the North stand then?)

I would need to check records for goal scorers and any actual game details.

The impetus came from me.

We had moved to Ipswich in 1967 when I was 7, and my dad was more of a rugby man than a football man.

It was through my classmates that I became a fan, and at the time there were two desires I had, to wear long trousers and to watch Ipswich.

I pressed my dad to take me for some time and eventually he agreed to do so, after which I hardly missed a home game until I left Ipswich at the age of 18, going in the main with school friends but occasionally with my dad.

The game was on 4 April 1969 against Sunderland and we won 1-0.

The team was

David Best
Mick Mills
Colin Harper
Peter Morris
Billy Baxter
Derek Jefferson
Danny Hegan
Colin Viljoen
Ron Wigg
John O'Rourke
Charlie Woods

I remember that we won but I had to look up that the scorer was Wigg in the 87th minute. And the crowd was a very respectable 24,021.

The first paragraph is an interesting question.

For me, i think being outdoorsy (and regarded as a bit thick), I started taking an interest very early and can recall Match of the Week being on every Sunday. My dad was a keen, active sportsman and good at plenty of them too. His father was also interested in sport and the Town. I sort of grew up with it.

I can remember is how excited I felt going to see my first game. So I clearly wanted to go and it was, looking back, a sort of right of passage. An expectation.
