And Everton 0-0 then early 72 beat West ham 1-0 only by looking at records or archives can I remember but remember the games although I was only 10.

My first home game was 16 September 1989, Wolves won 3-1. Assume Steve Bull scored without checking.

I went to a few away games before that as we didn't live in Suffolk then can't remember, probably Hull or Bradford who we played a lot in the 80s and 90s and were local.

I now believe Huddersfield April 71 as we played Everton twice April and August at home the August game being a Saturday and it was definitely a Saturday.

For years I've not been sure, but this post prompted me to work it out. It was a friend's 12th birthday party and we were in a box, Town won 2-1 but I could never remember who we were playing. Turns out it was Oldham, December 16th 1989.

I can remember my first game mainly because I was made a big fuss of. Right over the half way line, West Stand on padded seats. My grandad knew one of the Directors. I recall walking from the car, scarf, rosette and pin badge bought for me on the corner of NS and the Chicken Run and looking up at the massive stands. We walked past NS to our entrance. It looked massive.

The senses were overwhelmed - the people, the noise, everything. Up the stairs and that shock of green pitch contrasting to that rather gloomy February day. I was hooked.

We beat Cardiff 4-2 that day in early 1968. I remember nothing of the game whatsoever. I was 8 years old.

The games after that are a bit of a jumble and I’m not entirely sure what games I did see until around 1972. The memory plays tricks too. It wasn’t many because we didn’t live in the area and Saturday school restricted opportunities.

But my love of the game was cemented that day in 1968. The programme, scarf and pin badge are long gone, but I still have the rosette with the score written neatly on the back by my dad, even if the blue ribbon has discoloured to purple.

Pretty sure it was Luton 82/83. Gutted my old man is no longer around to confirm it though as it has irked me for years. Remember where we were seated in the Cobbold.

Trouble remembering last one let alone first one!
But I do remember when I fell in love with the Club
Texeco Cup at carrot rd and that sea of blue on their scummy pitch, what a feeling!

Mine was a 4-1 win against Wimbledon in Sept 2003. My family aren't big football people and I was playing football on Saturdays so we only went once a year as a birthday treat.

Subsequently saw us beat Millwall 2-0 the following season and then lose 4-0 to Preston, which promptly put a stop to that.

For various reasons my trips to Portman Road have been sporadic since - 2-0 to Rotherham in 14/15 and 3-2 loss to Brighton the following season, and then nothing until the Fulham game earlier this month.

A few away days smattered around that - 1-1 against Sheffield Wednesday a few days after the rotherham match, Charlton away for the Noel Hunt last minute winner, plus Gillingham (great fun) and Portsmouth (bloody miserable) in our first League 1 campaign.

I can't, either. Started going to Bristol and Cardiff away games some time in the mid-2000s, end of Joe Royle's managerial tenure or early in Magilton's. The first time I had both a car and money to spend on football. Tho I'd been a more-or-less nominal fan since watching the FA Cup final on TV with my father. It was my brother who got me back into it.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I can't remember the details and for some reason I've never tried to work out exactly when it was. It was against Derby (who I think may be historically Town's most frequent opponents?) and someone I considered to be too fat too play football was sent off for Derby. 73 - 75 I guess.

My dad took me down to PR on the 29th of December 1969, basically to say I'd seen them play in the 60's. We lost to spurs 0-1. I have a vague recollection of having to sit on the side of the pitch, but that's about it sadly

No idea. I remember playing with my toy cars on the steps of the old west stand in my first visit to Portman Road, but that was a reserve match. I’ve no idea who we played or what the score was. It was pre-78, but that’s all I know. It could have about 75-77, likely 76 but I’m not sure. I don’t remember my first senior match either. That may have been 78/79 season as we moved to Ipswich from deepest darkest Suffolk for the start of the 78/79 school year.

I can't remember mine, my dad said my Godfather took me but I don't remember him doing that at all lol! Given he lived on my road and we moved when I was 6, i'd imagine I was 5 at the time lol!

Apparently my Godfather played at Ipswich under Sir Bobby, although he got binned off for refusing to cut his hair ! (could be utter rubbish)

Anyway, first game I really remembered was the Norwich derby in 92/93 when I went to more games in the PL (glory hunter), then that tailed off around 98/99, just did a few games with mates.

Then had kids in 2005, took my son to the odd game here and there, then in covid, my son and I watched every game on the laptop and we got a season ticket and haven't stopped. He wasn't into football beforehand.

He's one of those people who remembers every score, every detail of every game he's been to. I can't remember what league we were in lol!

August 10, 1996 - Ipswich Vs Arsenal, John Wark testimonial, finished 1-1. I went as a non-football fan at the time, invited by some friends. The only player on the pitch I could recognise was Ian Wright. Was pretty bored and uninvested (but then it was a friendly after all)

The next and first competitive match I saw as an actual interested party wasn't until the Joe Royle years. 18 Jan 2003 Town 4 - Millwall 1 (Couñago (2), Ambrose, D. Bent)

Then I went to the 3-2 comeback v Sheffield Utd a few weeks later and from that point I was all in, even if I soon found out not every game is as exciting or satisfying as those two.

Spurs 5 Ipswich 3 in December 1980. One of my best mates was a Spurs fan and we also went to the March Portman Road fixture which we won 3-0. Don't remember much about the White Hart Lane match (remarkably as it had eight goals and a sending off from memory), think I was a bit over awed by the whole occasion. My first ever match was Spurs Chelsea the season before when I thought I was going to die, was terrifying.

I also can't remember an 8 goal thriller. The 4-4 with Charlton, no not that one, the one at Portman Road in 1990. The only thing I can really remember is being sat up in the Pionner Stand and feeling overwhelmed at how high up it felt. It was also on my mum's birthday, don't know how my dad tangled that!

Sometime in the 1960/61 season, I can't remember who we played, let alone whether we won, drew or lost. Somewhere in the loft is a box of programmes, so I could probably work it out from them.

Good post!
I'm about 80% sure mine was the home game v Plymouth Argyle on 25/11/67. I know I went to more than 1 game that season, we sat in the chicken run, and have a great photo of me and my big brother in Town kits celebrating the 2nd Div Championship at the end of that season. I was only 6, but just have this memory of playing a team in green and white, and I remember all the players in that team. But my Dad could never tell me for certain, so for me as far as I'm concerned that was my first.

I can totally relate. I went to dozens of games when I was far too young to remember. I have sort of been ashamed of this for years when everyone talks all misty eyed about their first visit to Portman Road.

The first game I actually recall properly was when Kevin Wilson scored a hat-trick against Stoke in May 1985, but I know I had been to many, many games across many seasons previously.

I struggle, but know it would have been around 79 or 80.

I do have a very vivid memory of the UEFA Cup victory parade though, amazing day.

Definitely can't remember mine.

it was apparently to Hull at home and Ipswich lost 1-0 to a Brian Gayle OG.....! (so I'm told)

Google searching it it looks like April 1990 so i'd have been 4!

The first games I do remember are the ones in the promotion 91/92 season, especially those Liverpool FA Cup games.
