A leaky defence does not make for comfortable survival! We really need to get a couple of clean sheets, for the confidence of the defence.

Now he's being exposed and not just today. He's been at fault for bad basic decision making in practically every game this season. [Post edited 1 Nov 5:00]

But was he? He was liked enough to be thought of by many that sang happily enough that McKenna knew exactly what we need, and stated that was Woolfy at the back...

It's the amount we're conceding though Joe. We're currently tracking for 76 goals against for the season. Going back through the last 10 prem seasons I can only see one team that has managed to survive letting in that many goals, which was Leeds in 21/22. The odds will not be in our favour if we carry on conceding at this rate. I raised the OP as it's a concerning habit. GON might say it's his plan to outscore the opposition by playing open forward thinking football, but it's a dangerous game. Personally, I think it's silly not to be slightest bit concerned, even if just a niggling concern, as I have.

We are on track to score 60 goals though, I can’t imagine many teams have gone down having done that thought The whole picture has to be looked at for me

You're acting like being better defensively means playing a more defensive style and therefore scoring less. That's not the case. The two goals we conceded have nothing to do with us being attacking and trying to outscore teams. We can play the same style and try to outscore the other teams and still be harder to score against. There is a good chance that we may have injuries or a loss of form to key players later in the season. Trying to outscore teams when conceding an average of two goals a game throughout the season will be extremely tough as the season progresses. [Post edited 2 Nov 21:20]

But that's just not true, whilst O'Shea didn't cover himself in glory the wide open space comes from Davis playing high, Diop pressing very aggressively on half way and Palacios being ahead of Iroegbunum in a half space - that aggressive style of defending is what has allowed us to have the 2nd most shots from high turnovers and most goals in the league from that scenario Even for the second goal we get caught with men ahead of the ball when we give it away because we are looking to go when we get the chance to break, it's a risky game but is the one O'Neil has elected to go with It really isn't as simple as just trying to 'tighten up', every change to do that has an effect going the other way up the pitch - it's all about balance, if we could just concede less goals whilst still offering the same threat we obviously would do.
