What a goal. He's our player! We have world class players like him playing for us! Can't stop watching the goal back. Yes of course we want to stay up, but can we not let the modern sports optimisation spreadsheet nonsense with it's obsession with cold clinical appraisal suck the life out of actually enjoying supporting this team? We went through entire seasons without any sort of moment like that. Also it's doubly outrageous that neither him or Palacios have a proper song. This is Dreamland and lots of us are moping about and dare I say it seemingly getting more pleasure from watching the free kick back to moan about Walton rather than celebrating a wonder goal. Watch the goal back again this morning and it'll put you in a good mood!

I was about 10 - 14 during those Burley playoff years and finishing 5th in the premier league, and remember being in the pub with my dad and his mates after games hearing how shit Scowcroft was. The fact we were in L1 5 years ago and what not doesn’t mean people can’t share observations in the here and now, whether good, bad or indifferent. People can appreciate Palacios, Ouattara & Enciso’s performances yesterday and how for 45 minutes we were in an away premier league game looking like a top side. It was beautiful to see. I do find it a tiresome narrative that because we were shit 5 years ago we can’t be critical of anything or anyone today. It’s a small time mentality, and thankfully not one that’ll be shared by those inside the club. We need to think like a premier league club, we’re here on merit and not just passing through. It’s OK to call a spade a spade when we give away poor goals. |
You're absolutely right about the moaning. Even during the most successful period in the club's history, fans would regularly have a moan about Mick Mills. Spot on with your 2nd paragraph. We've really got to stop using 2024/25 as a yardstick for the current season. It's great that we're doing so much better of course, but we need to look forwards not backwards, measure ourselves against the current opposition and not be afraid to criticise poor play like the two goals we conceded yesterday.

I didn't moan at players during the Robson era, and I have tried not to do the same since despite the drop in quality for much of the subsequent period. [Post edited 2 Nov 10:50]

Do you think GON will walk in training and say "Dara, we'll ignore your lack of defending because we all need to big up the Encsio goal" very much "3 cheers for the mexicans" vibes about it

It's two points dropped and if we keep conceding goals as poor as those on Saturday then it will be hard work to stay up. The lack of control in games is concerning too. There's some great bits about this season - and the players we have - but without picking up enough points to ensure we stay up then they will be wasted.

I solid voice of reason that. We can all enjoy individual moments, but they don't matter if we don't get the points we need to stay up. And lets be clear, the investment this season the goal of staying up is very much more achievable than it was previously.
