After 9 games in 24/25 11:56 - Nov 1 with 1370 viewsDubtractor

We'd got 0 wins and 4 draws, only 4 points on the board.

Scored 9 and conceded 20.

We are so far ahead of that this time around. Even our leaky defence is better than it was 2 years ago!

Not sharing this with any real point to make (other than we are better!), just that I thought I'd look at where we were 2 years ago. We were pretty much already doomed at this point.

Who’ll fill the roles of us, Saints and Leicester? Sunderland look in trouble with Europe + second season syndrome doing them no favours. Palace I’m not sure about. They have talent and will presumably get a bounce from a new manager if their current form continues. Similar situation with Forest, on paper they look likel a team that shouldnt be down there. Hopefully crazy owner will carry on being crazy and keep them unsettled. Coventry seem to win, lose, win just recently which gives them a shot. Fulham were excellent second half at Villa. Don’t see them being in trouble. Hull will surely finish bottom three. And maybe one day Man City will be actually punished….

If I was a gambling man, I'd go for Sunderland, Palace and Hull for the bottom 3.

Sunderland have got the losing habit, don't score many, and have lost the tight defence habit from last season. Palace look a mess defensively, and their two wins were very much against the run of play in those games. Hull have been hugely impressive, but it feels like they are running out of steam a bit, and the comparative lack of quality for the league will show.

I don't rate Coventry, but they have found a way to win games which obviously gives them a chance.

Absolutely we are better but it is a very low bar comparison. I have quite enjoyed our start and it has been satisfying not to be saddled with dread for the Aug-Oct period.

Big however coming. I hope there is more to come from this team, and it is great that GON is a master of survival, it feels like it will be very close.

Using your comparison of 24/25 season. The bottom three at this stage had 1, 2, and 4 points. Whereas, today they have 5, 6 and 7. Is it reasonable to assume those teams are going to be collecting more points as the season goes on compared with most recent form after mostly having difficult starts?

Our remaining games in this first half of the season are really challenging on paper and our leaky defence is a problem. If we are aiming for around 20 points by half way that is a big ask in the games we have coming up. Most teams are in the top half of table on form, only Newcastle and Leeds are not and one of them is away from home. I can see a path to secure 9/9 games but with Chelsea, Arsenal and Brighton in that group of games it is more like 9 points from 5 games and very little margin for error after Hull.

Big weeks ahead, the fans really need to get behind the team for our PR games.

We are racking 1.22 goals per game. That would give us 46 points at the end of the season and comfortably avoiding relegation.

Our next three games are home to Bournemouth, away at Spurs and home to Villa. We will need a minimum of 3 points from those games but preferably 4.

Antisemites, Jew haters and crashing bores will be put on ignore.

Good comparison it is definitely miles better but tbh it's going to be very tough still to get 40+ points.

It is good to compare the points totals. The way we are playing is so much better too, with nearly all matches being close affairs which could go either way, making me feel we are a proper Premier League club this time around.
