Anyone else think he's a selfish prick?
He left his wife and young child who was 8 yrs old at the time. Left her to bring his son up on her own while he went off on a " jolly" for 28 years. His child is now closing in on middle age. His mother said simply, " where have you been"??
I view him as a self centrered individual, and hes seen as hero, for what exactly?

Yep, everyone has to live there own life but sounds like he's just avoided all contact and responsibility for 3 decades and left his family hanging. Never met his 12 year old granddaughter until the other day, wow.
Something very sad about his son joining him on the walk in the us for a bit in his 20s. Seemingly trying so hard when he'd barely met his own dad and it clearly not mattering as no more meaningful contact for another 12 years after.
All very very weird and ultimately very very selfish. Everyone has reasons to potentially take off, very few do, and even less make a performative gesture out of it. |  | | |

Well he's ex forces isnt he , so I guess it s PTSD and he's gone off grid... better than lying in a ditch dead I suppose...But I don't think "home life2is going to sit well with him, or his family. All very sad if this proves to be the case. | |
