| Way too much negativity! 18:04 - Nov 22 with 1717 views | Nutkins_Return | I haven't seen the game and I'm sure watching it if it was a bit passive I'd be a bit more annoyed then I am having not seen it. BUT this is the way we are as a team and building continuity and consistency. We are getting more consistent. We arent losing games and dropping as many points as the start of the season. We are clearly miles off the finished article but today is a day you look at it and say we were never losing it, we controlled it and we should have won and got a goal but we take the point and move on. We may get a hard fought win away and it all starts to balance out. The frustration is Cov just keep winning even when not playing great and getting the run with sending off etc. We are going to have to be patient with this team. It's obvious we have some talent but equally we aren't right yet. | |

Massively, and have been repeating that for a long time. Overrated. Need a reality check that this is a pretty average group of Championship players, and we are ultimately one of the average pack looking to fight our way out of this division now.

But I'm not commenting specifically on the match am I. I've seen every other game and I know where we are at. And it's pretty clear how today went. I'm referring more to the overwhelming negativity of our situation with people calling our players average, folk calling out McKenna etc. It's way over the top by many. We drew a game of football we shouldn't have because they didn't lay a glove on us. It's going to happen. It happened many times in the L1 season when again teams sat deep.

| Way too much negativity! on 19:01 - Nov 22 with 1067 views | NthQldITFC | Some truth there of course, but we are not adapting to games where we just endlessly run into a block this season. We need more freedom to take sub-optimal potshots and create a bit of chaos otherwise we just fizzle out trying to be too perfect. It's a balance of process overwhelming enthusiasm at little at the moment, I feel. We need to be a bit freer around the box. Taylor, Nunez etc getting shots off for the forwards to follow up would be nice. | |

I agree. We aren't coping with breaking sides down and we need to sort that out. Charlton was the worst case where we didn't stick it in the net and then completely lost our shape and got the balance horribly wrong. Boro at times we got the balance wrong as well. So I think McKenna/the team are guarding against that a little bit and can crank it up again gradually (maybe). If we get a goal or two we can take teams apart. It's frustrating but understandable and not overly concerned as still early days.

Yes, I see what you mean, we are getting more and more solid. Let's hope we can focus on that early goal scoring, however it comes, next. Take a little of the rigidity* out of our play and create some more chaos early in games. Watching Cov 2nd half today reminded me of us two years ago when we overwhelmed defences with enthusiasm as much as anything. *not sure if 'rigidity' really applies to us, but I think we try to be too perfect in search of our squad development for PL readiness - we can do that in the spring, IF we can start winning 3 games in 4 and get settled into the top two.

Amazing if we weren’t so robotic and could try something a little different. Was hoping the like for like changes that come around 70mins would inspire something new but alas they didn’t. But we know it isn’t about formations and one lone carthorse against 3 league one centre halves….but more about phases, patterns of play, age profiles, groups and execution. I’m just hoping the data dashboard and stats computers are showing we’re on the cusp of clicking but we do look dreadfully predictable most of the time and hoping for a ‘moment’ of individual brilliance to bail us out. In McKenna we trust n all that.

Do you not trust McKenna though genuinely? I can't remember a manager I've trusted more. He builds things and creates culture/standards/football teams. Is there a manager that can come in a get results quick in such scenarios - maybe. There are some expert quick fixers. McCarthy was one. But I want someone who can build something long term and he's the man for the job.

From a squad personnel perspective we are not really building a long term team though, we are building a side that we hope can get us promoted and then it will be dismantled again, it would have to be, only a few of this squad would stand a chance. If we don’t get promoted a lot of the squad would also turnover with the loan players etc.

It's not "early days", it's 1/3 of the season gone & while we aren't a million miles away, some improvement is needed & some of McKenna's expensive signings look like misfits.

For a new season that is very early days. The team probably need a year. I know that won't be palatable or acceptable to football fans but that's just how it is. It doesn't mean we can't go up or have a successful season. It just means this team won't be hitting it's potential for a good while yet. The task and the challenge is to still go up without full potential and consistency. It will get better, it has got better but just because we don't want disappointing draws and defeats doesn't mean it won't happen. Like it or not patience will be required. Was no different when McKenna took us over. The payoff will be there in my opinion.

Im definitely more glass half full but I say it how I see it and I'm that way because that's what I'm feeling with this manager, this team and this club. I've been critical and frustrated plenty of times and I've even gone o er the top with the past (Got pelters for my views on hladky previously - fairly sometimes).

I do go to games. I've watched nearly every game this season either in person, live or on full replays. I'm not local but I put a lot of money into the club and travel when I can so I'm perfectly entitled to an opinion. I hadn't seen this game at the time of writing as it wasnt on live and my comment wasn't specific to the game as I made clear. Pull you head out your own arse.
