The train crash in Spain. 11:48 - Jan 19 with 300 viewsnoggin

Looks horrendous and brings back memories of the Ladbroke Grove accident, in 1999, which I attended.
My thoughts go out to all involved but especially to the emergency services who are having to deal with such a major incident. Some of the injuries at Ladbroke Grove were really nasty and I know of at least one paramedic who had to give up his career because of the horrors he witnessed that day.

I hope the passengers who survived and the attending emergency service personnel get the counselling they will undoubtedly need.

It's a real tragedy.

A railway expert on the World at One thought it rather unusual given the train is pretty new, it didn't seem to be going over the speed limit and the track was straight and had recently been upgraded.

I wondered if their was either an obstruction on the line, or perhaps a mechanical issue with the train's wheels/suspension.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
