I like Szmodics, his energy, his harassing defences. However, he's not quite the right player in the "No. 10" role for the way we currently play. It needs more a Nunez or (from the little we saw on Saturday) a Mehmeti. Someone who can distribute and set up others, on top of chasing down defenders.
In a team looking to break quickly into space - like we were last season and to some extent during the promotion runs - he is good. But at the moment we're frequently trying to penetrate compact defences in the opposition box, maneuvering the ball quickly in tight spaces.
It might be logical for him to go elsewhere - at least for now. |  |

McKenna was after him for ages and he’s now fit, no way this is happening especially with our lack of other striking options. He should be played as a 9, not like we need a target man is it as we don’t cross into the box. Szmods as a 9 should be given a go. | | | |

McKenna is not going to use him as a 9. He's had every chance to, and has chosen not to. We need a clinical number 9, and having bought yet another non-9 attacker in Mehmeti, something has to give. The obvious departure is SS, sorry to say.

I think there’s an argument that he suited us more in the premier league when we didn’t have so much of the ball. Where’s we have the ball more now he’s not quite as effective.
Think he’s a decent player but one where it hasn’t quite worked out but if it happens I reckon he will get goals, he’s an instinctive finisher. |  | | |

Wouldn't say we're desperate. It would be nice, give us a bit more edge, but it isn't like we're short of goals (most of which come from our non-9 attackers). | |

Inside left position in the premier league, pressing and chasing and waiting for his moment to sniff a goal, without having to worry about getting on the ball and linking too much. Seemed to suit him much better. |  |

Probably the most natural ‘finisher’ in the squad.
Shame it hasn’t really worked for him, had he stayed fit last season I suspect he’d have bagged a few more goals and possibly got a move in the summer to a Leeds or Burnley.. or atleast given a better account this season
