Lots of talk about a poor performance today 20:50 - Jan 31 with 837 viewsGarv

And being too passive. And O'Shea not just 'getting it forward' more.

And yet we created a handful of fairly big chances that we should have either done a lot better with or scored. Clarke with a one on one (sort of) first half and a second chance which was a classic Philogene/Clarke goal from earlier in the season.

Mehmeti's ball into Hirst, less said about that finish the better, but that was a pretty big chance. Mehmeti's shot just past the left post in the second half. Kipre's header.

It's not like we didn't create anything. Yes they frustrated us, for which they should be credited, and there was a lot of passing the ball around the back, but for me that was just a by product of how the game was. I do think we should have started pumping it forward into the box earlier when looking for the winner, but if we're doing that we need to flood the box and that's risky as Preston were handy on the break.

Everyone wants us to get the ball quicker until we get it forward quicker and it rolls through to their keeper. O'Shea did send several cross field passes out to the left side throughout the game, which he does generally very well, and we constantly tried to get Kipre into space to try and drive forward. I don't think we could have done much differently and it wasn't much different to some games in 23/24 when teams were playing defensively. The difference then was that we had Morsy to drive us forward, so if you're wanting to point the blame anywhere, maybe have a look at our midfield. I thought Taylor was good when he came on for what it's worth.

General thoughts:
Hirst is lacking any kind of confidence.
We miss Nunez massively.
Mehmeti looks handy and very busy, reminds me of Celina.
Walle Egeli is offering nothing
The penalty we get is an embarrassment, Clarke has conned the ref and he's given into the baying crowd. The penalty we don't get is a nailed on penalty.
The referee was obviously dreadful, when both sides are unhappy with him you know it was bad..
If you started booing the team during the second half because the tempo was slow, you're a numpty.

I thought Preston created 3 or 4 really good chances. The first half when their guy went clear through should have been a goal

Always felt like a high chance we concede today from fairly early in first half. We seem to take 3 passes when one would do very frequently,

Many times people receive the ball in space and don’t turn just backwards pass. Frustrating

The only Muff in Town.

Its been said many many times before.

Theres a hell of a lot of people with absolutely no middle ground, we lose or draw and immediately its poor, crap, pathetic.

There's also several who just cannot read a positive without instantly replying with a negative. (JoeyJJJ is a perfect example of that today)

This season has been the worst for this kind of reaction bar none.

Just on the penalty, he was definitely clipped (I was right behind it) but doesn't completely lose his footing and decides to 'take a knee' which would definitely have been given anywhere else on the pitch. Once he'd given that though, the ref probably wouldn't have given another even if Clarke had been machine-gunned.

Oh and the goalkeeper head injury just before was clearly play acting.

O’Shea does more forward attacking passes than any other player on the pitch, his passing whether short or long is outstanding at times.

Think that's fair. Despite the result we looked far more effective at getting the ball into danger areas than earlier on the season against a deep defence and the players looked to go forwards and long whenever they could. Reflected by an xg of well over 2.

On the other hand there was an unwelcome return of O Shea stood motionless with the ball at his feet we've not seen for a while and some of the build up was far, far too slow.

Still think the system needs tweaking for games like this or a back up plan for when we can't get the goal or go behind because it's a constant thorn in our side. If Town don't go up this year and McKenna stays he needs to spend some of summer working on a viable plan B for games where teams come to sit deep and spoil.

Hirst looks like he has a case of the yips at the moment:

"The yips are a sudden and unexplained loss of ability to execute certain skills in experienced performers such as athletes. Symptoms of the yips are losing fine motor skills and psychological issues that impact the muscle memory and decision-making, leaving them unable to perform basic skills.".

Mehmeti looks very promising. One game and created two excellent chances for others and one for himself.

Agreed. Having a go at our RCB for not being creative enough is an odd one.
