He's reportedly conceded the elections. Magyar is on course for an extremely large majority, potentially even a 2/3rds supermajority which would allow him to change the constitution and roll back some Orban changes (if he is that way inclined).

Opposition leader Péter Magyar has posted on Facebook that Orban called him to congratulate him. There had been fears that Orban would not concede if defeated. The call has not been confirmed by the Orban side as yet (Guardian). www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...

Same, there was even groundwork being laid about irregularities. Also the weird situation of Government backed pollsters reporting a completely different reality of polling numbers than the independent pollsters (and now the real results).

I'd guess it's such a complete and comprehensive defeat you can't cry foul.

On a serious note though, the USA and Trump are toxic pretty much globally, and the last 2 months will have cemented that. Even Farage isn't keen to cheerlead for him anymore.

If Orban has conceded, that's excellent news. Was every chance he'd get the right-wing playbook out to try and cling to power.

And great in general for region, as he's been a model for authoritarian leaders worldwide for years now. There's a reason he's revered by Trump/Vance and friendly with Putin. Getting him gone removes a dictatorial and dysfunctional disruptor from the EU.

Hopefully, Magyar won't be tempted to follow the same route into corruption, sometimes those systems can be difficult to untangle.

The only downside on this is the new guy is a former Orbán loyalist.

There is an element of wait and see with Magyar. Like you say, he's a former Orban loyalist. However he's made better noises than Orban and getting rid of the 3rd most corrupt ruler in Hungary (after Lukashenko and Putin) is still good.
