So soft. Of all the cheating and diving that goes on, and it's this sort of thing that now carries the heaviest punishment.

Pulling an opponents hair is cheating and is a lot more dangerous than someone diving.

It's soft but letter of the law says it's a red

I can't offer any sympathy given leif had a 3 game ban for pulling a Leicester players hair

Exactly. Poor sod could end up like the ref.

The thing with this red card and Leif's is it isn't deliberate. Both only have eyes on the ball. They are grabbing at anything - shirts, arms, shoulders and, in this case, hair.
But it's not like it's a deliberate hair-pull off the ball.
There are so many other offences in football that go unpunished or are lightly punished.

Crucially, there has been no evidence of a hair pull at all re Leif...

So, would you like more of these sort of offences to be punished, or fewer?
Most of them are very hard for the officials to detect with certainty, which I presume is why the players do them.

It's now a massive advantage to grow long flowing locks and to not tie them up. Get a red every week.

agree but we didn't help ourselves by admitting to the charge. We only contested the length of the ban so Leif must have known what he grabbed.
He just obviously didn't mean to do it and, presumably, thought if he accepted the charge, they'd be lenient on him.

This is where I am with it. There is absolutely no reason for there to be more jeopardy when jumping against an opponent with long hair. In each of these recent cases the offence has been completely inadvertent yet the onus is on the player jumping against the player with the longer hair to take extra care with the opponent - it is utterly insane and unfair. The rules have been applied in these cases I assume, but it is complete nonsense.

He clearly deliberately tried to get hold of his hair and succeeded, rightly a red card. If you're having to pull someone's hair to stop them then you deserve to be sent off as you're not a very good defender.

Yet a far worse offence and clearly deliberate pull on an opponents hair was only punished with a yellow card in the Women’s CL QF between Arsenal and Chelsea, and had that VAR as well.

I though the decision that last night as violent conduct was farcical whether than is how the law outlines it or not. Defender makes no deliberate attempt to grab the hair imo, is trying to grapple the opponent and gets the hair as part of it, at no point did he appear to even look at where he was grabbing.

This a rule that has to change in the off season.

Should be treated the same as a deliberate elbow.

- Has to be clear malice for it to be a red
- Has to be clearly forceful

I'd also be in favour of ensuring players must wear their hair up above their number otherwise it's an obvious advantage.

Perhaps it’s an advantage having lots of players whose hair is pullable to maximise the chance of opponents getting sent off for this offence.

Maybe Nunez needs to grow his hair like Marc Cucurella.
