But it just seems to make this lot shrinking violets.

I understand we built up the derby game, but surely we didn't completely empty the tank on Saturday? If someone didn't know our team, they'd have said we're mid table fodder and our season was already done. It was limp. It was turgid. There was no cohesion or bravery on the ball. It was Stoke away on repeat.

I just don't think we have the squad mentality to get this job done. I really don't. I'm done seeing us talk the talk. Now it's time to walk the walk over these next few weeks. How many of them actually want to be in the Prem and have confidence in themselves not to be sold on this summer? We'll soon see.

Big questions over the collective mentality of this group. Even a point tonight would have been decent. But we sht the bed instead and made life a lot harder for ourselves.

I can accept falling one behind. But to go to pieces and not see it out til HT was unforgivable. Just like Stoke away. Serious automatic promotion contenders don't let that happen multiple times.

These performative huddles after conceding are getting my goat too.

Dara’s pre game rally in the dressing room going into the tunnel was embarrassing - it was a monotone monologue with not one other response or acknowledgment from the rest of the squad.
No firing up the squad, no psyching them up just a speech. We expected to turn up and walk over them similar to what teams did to us first season we got to premier league. It was complacency, arrogance and in the end pretty embarrassing. The team looked disjointed and had
No fight until it was too late. McKenna too many changes and it showed, it was almost like a cup of
Old. Nunez had a shocker, kipre, shocker, Neil shocker. Most of the other players had 5 out of 10 games- I think maybe McAteer for first 10 mins, Clarke and O’Shea. That’s it

I agree. I made very similar comments back in December and the mentality issue keeps repeating itself.

Too many times this season we have had games that “title favourites” just don’t have.

It’s a privilege if you can continuously handle it, it’s a hindrance if you’re mentally fragile.

Mentality is the biggest part that separates the good from the great.

You do have to question the team spirit at times. There's not a band of brothers feel to this squad whatsoever and I think that's precisely why the fans haven't warmed to them. We're in top 2 contention because of our individual quality, in spite of our poor general team cohesion.

I think the main difference is the team from 2 years ago outperformed their potential, and everyone loves an underdog. When you have a star studded £200m+ team in the Championship there is expectation.

I think we just don’t have that mentality in the current squad when the going gets tough in the middle of a game. We are fine against the big times and Norwich (see results/performaces) - we do turn up, you only need to look at the teams around us and our results against them. It is the teams that bully us physically and make it hard during the game by doing something different to what we expect when we seem to show that weak mentality.
