| Akpom 16:09 - May 28 with 1470 views | Nutkins_Return | I'd love Akpom to prove a few wrong next season. Obviously a big ask but their is a player there and certainly a finisher. I do think attributes wise he would be much more effective as a 9. If anything it has almost shot him in the foot that he is quite versatile. We know he can finish, is strong and has decent pace. I'd like to see him give. Game time as a 9 in pre-season. Of course at the moment we should be bringing in two 9s in the summer but I do think there is an opportunity for him. He should be backing himself to get ahead of Hirst with his ability. What he does give us is some versatility in a 25 man squad. I'm going to back him to make the 25 and let's see if he can force his way in over pre-season. I always go back to Thomas Asante. Cov fans thought he was a complete waste of money first season and very similar in that he was a versatile forward who played a few positions. Just took him a while to settle. (June 25th 'Akpom seals move back to Boro (or Brum)' 🤣) | |

| Akpom on 16:14 - May 28 with 1443 views | Herbivore | Can't see it at all. We had quite a lot of players struggle to find their feet for half a season but they got stronger as the season went on generally, just look at how McAteer finished the season and the improvement in Azon's game. Akpom just didn't push on at all and on the occasions he did make it on to the pitch he was barely noticeable. A real shame it didn't work out but he's 30 now and will turn 31 early in the new season. He's never been a Prem quality player and on what we've seen he looks WAY off the level we need. Think he will be out somewhere else next season. | |

| Akpom on 16:30 - May 28 with 1379 views | BlueBoots | I thought on the few occasions Akpom got to play as a 9 last season, his hold-up play was superior to both Hirst and Azon; for the most part they were staying high, battling the centre-backs, and looking for a quick lay-off, whereas Akpom was dropping deep into pockets of space, and keeping the ball until teammates were in a good position to retain possession. Unfortunately only a small sample size, because as mentioned played most his games behind someone else at 9. | |

Maybe try showing enough in the minutes you do get and in training to force your way into the team? We have long stretches of the season where Azon and Hirst were either not firing or not fit but Akpom still couldn't stake a claim. I really don't get how some people have seen Akpom this season and think he's been hard done by or shown much at all. He was a real disappointment.

| Akpom on 17:45 - May 28 with 1217 views | TripSwitch | Where is this pace and strength you speak of? I don't remember seeing much of either. He may look as if he's pacy and strong but he never played like it. Agree that he can finish but it appears that a McKenna ball striker needs to be far more dynamic than an Akpom type | |

| Akpom on 20:51 - May 28 with 973 views | tetchris | Just another £7million pissed up the wall by MA and his recruitment team! No lesson learnt from last time in the PL. Had one very good season at Boro but then never replicated it or pushed on. 13 clubs and 9 loans tells its own story. Ajax must of pissed themselves laughing when MA agreed this deal and we got promoted. Probably a loan in January to the championship or Europe would be best for all parties. We don’t want to waste a PL squad place on someone who isn’t going to play or contribute. | | | |

I mean it was clear as day that he wasn't working in the 10. He started 6 games where we won 1, drew 4 and lost 1, scoring just 3 goals outside the Shef United thrashing where Philogene took over. How much longer did you want to give it?!? | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Akpom on 22:47 - May 28 with 839 views | Vaughan8 | Versatility is only good, if you're good enough. Unfortunately, this guy was barely played towards the end of the season. Not only does he have to improve just to get into our team, but to be good in the Premier League, he needs to improve even more...........I just can't see it! Surely he isn't going to want to sit on the bench or less for a season. I suspect it will be a loan out because no-one is going to want to pay a fee and his wages. It's a shame we had to sign him really. | | | |

Was expecting to see something better from him , but never did , either a) because he didn't play or b) because it was behind a number 9 or c) because his form wasn't that great. He could be one who finds his mojo in the Premier league and make an impact, but he certainly needs to hit the ground running in pre-season , otherwise I dont see him making the squad.
| Akpom on 08:43 - May 29 with 672 views | StokieBlue | Don't see how he even gets registered in the squad, I don't even think he would have been registered if we hadn't gone up. We need to find a move that works for both parties, cuts our losses and he's happy to take. SB | |

Especially when our striker(s) will be chasing scraps next season. I'll be amazed if he kicks another ball for Town.

Agree that he didn't work whatsoever as a 10 for us. I did actually quite like him as a striker and had hoped he'd start a few games in that position but it wasn't to be FWIW we were already 3-0 up against sheff utd when Chuba was subbed off, so a bit harsh to leave that one out. And lets be honest, Jaden will have never had an easier game than he did then against Ben Godfrey!
| Akpom on 11:13 - May 29 with 497 views | darkhorse28 | When have you seen those traits and qualities in an Ipswich shirt? Quality finishing, pace, I think it’s the lack of both along with poor movement and lack of energy that frustrates the most. He obviously has quality, but I can’t think of a single game he’s shown it for a full game for us, and there’s no lack of opportunity, a season where he was fit and available says a lot. I didn’t see all his games. So could be wrong. But McKenna saw him every day. And he doesn’t rate him relative to Hirst, Azon, Nunez, Mehmetti, etc That says it all. And Azons 8 goal contributions and 250th shot accuracy stats, we’re not a high bar. But at least he worked, ran, tried, hence the selection. Akpom offered nothing. He needs to go, and will, amazed me trying to make abject failure in the EFL fit three levels higher. If he did show up, what does that say about him? How did Finidi George end? .., a cold night in Grimsby. Same same. | | | |

| Akpom on 11:29 - May 29 with 468 views | SWLondonBlue93 | If McKenna thought he had the attributes to be a number 9 for us, we would have seen some evidence for it by now. There were times the season just gone where neither Hirst nor Azon were setting the world alight but Akpom never got a look in, I think he might have started up front once? | | | |
