I don't know what they are for any more, beyond lining their own pockets. They haven't been for the fans for a considerable amount of time.

Indeed. And it was the FBI that took them down last time around. If you are corrupt by US standards, then I'm not sure what that says about the rest of the world's failure to act on them.

FIFA seems to exist now just to make as much money as possible for the tiny countries who'll never get to a world cup

Even just Europe, tbh. Without Europe FIFA are nothing. If Europe went their own way and invited Argentina + Brazil, everyone else would follow. Would never happen, but can dream.

At a bare minimum, all international friendlies should be scrapped. And would make a case for euro and WC qualifiers to be scrapped also. Just have teams show up and have a pure knockout tournament. Win or go home. Play every other day.

Totally agree, usually get shouted down when I've said it in the past to people, so gave up saying it! At least there are 2 of us.

I would miss the big tournaments. Friendlies are mind numbing. Even the so called glamour friendlies are crap. I would like to see the September international break scrapped. It comes far too soon. In the Prem when you don't get the first round of the league cup and you start a week or two later it really grates to have to stop again so soon.
| Can we not just quit this corrupt bunch of charlatans? on 20:19 - May 28 with 1330 views | Trequartista | I'm sure people have contemplated this before through the Blatter years with the way tournament hosting is awarded so its nothing new but what would we gain from that? We can't play the World Cup by ourselves. | |

I'm sure he must be taking backhanders too. Pull out of FIFA would be great but is it even possible? and how many countries would really do it. You'd need at least 10-15 main countries I suspect.

I would. I enjoy international football a lot. But I've never been less enthused by a World Cup. I have all the priority to get England tickets and had originally planned to do a big trip 3-4 years ago, but once I saw the prices on top of the dubious regime over there now, that went straight in the bin. But at least the concept of International Football is less corruptible even if the money-making at the top is bent as a 9-bob. I'd rather all us other clubs pulled out the Premiersh*t and leave the six brands stranded until they make it fair tbh...

Because the main tournaments have been expanded to so many teams, qualifying is easy and it makes the matches boring. I suppose we do still need qualifiers but I would definitely scrap the Nations' League and all the complicated rules that go with it. Let the big nations meet in the World Cup / Euros. As for FIFA, I would support countries pulling out in protest at how the game is being run.
| Can we not just quit this corrupt bunch of charlatans? on 18:15 - May 29 with 677 views | Pinewoodblue | Infantino was re-elected unopposed in 2019 & 2023 what makes anyone connected with FIFA wants change. There are going to be plenty of seats available outside the stadiums each match day, as they were in France in 1998. Not for the big games but especially between teams who have no chance of getting behind the group stage. In ‘98 went to games in Nantes & Bordeaux and on the walk to the stadiums there were plenty of people trying to sell on tickets. We gave a guy a lift to Nantes and he waited until a few minutes before kick off and he paid less than half price. | |

Do fans get a vote in the way football is run at any level? The only democracy seems to be over electing a government who are setting up a football regulator. Even our own football club voted to keep VAR and to expend the Championship play-off to eight teams without asking us as I understand it. [Post edited 29 May 18:27]

Do fans get a vote in the way football is run at any level? ---------- You should have a read of Ade Tempany's "And the Sun shines now" He takes apart the way the Premier league was set up and compares our ownership to the German (50% + 1) model that ensure fans are central to club ownership and decisions. Light years apart in how they work. For FIFA - I'd recommend David Yallop (How they stole the game) if you can find a copy. Details the historic corruption from Havelange to Blatter. (Apologies if you already up on these)

| Can we not just quit this corrupt bunch of charlatans? on 18:47 - May 29 with 597 views | Radlett_blue | The possible tipping point was the extremely corrupt awarding of the World Cup to Qatar. Even Uncle Sepp was amazed he'd been out-manoeuvred by Platini. If there was a time for the sensible big European nations (England, France, Italy, Germany, Spain) to get together with Brazil, Argentina & the USA to get together & organise their own competition, inviting selected other countries, this was it. But Infantino is simply Blatter II. | |

Absolutely. Uefa plus Btazil and Argentina would have meant every credible World Cup winner and Fifa would have been history. That was the moment, the vote for Qatar has been shown to have been made by corrupt Fifa members and should never have been allowed to stand. Corrupt to the core as an organisation.
