In from 33/1 to 6/1.

Another who is praised for his 'attention to detail' and 'unique' training sessions.

Talk about a risk .. presumably that would be the first time anyone has made the jump from League One to the Premier League?

I mentioned him last night, for the reasons in the OP.

I know Ashton likes a 'risk' but I wonder if this might be one risk too far given the need to try and stay up.

I think the fact he was very successful at the Manchester City Elite Development squad, and therefore worked within the "Pep" environment would play heavily into it.

Keith Andrews was only the set piece coach at Brentford with no other management experience before Brentford named him as boss.

if we were still in the championship then the fit would be good. but staying up now is so critical to the club's continued progression that i can't see it happening.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Paul Cook could spot a player, get him back in the recruitment team! The Greyhound will also be happy.

Keith Andrews (and Frank before him) has/had Brentford's scouting and transfer team behind them

But, yes, good point re: BBM's coaching past

That’s who I was thinking of. Not sure a bloke from George and Mildred is really going to cut it, but heck, he’d be better than Brendan Rodgers.

Kim Helberg is lengthening now, out to 16/1 from 8/1 as are many of the others.
Bookies currently have it between

O'Neil 4/7 (Lengthening)
OGS 4/1
Rosenior 5/1 (Lengthening)
Barry-Murphy 6/1 (Shortening)
Rob Edwards 6/1 (Shortening)

I think we are likely to appoint fairly quickly so the markets will line up pretty soon.

Edit: Barry-Murphy had just gone to 4/1 with William Hill. Now second favourite.

Wonder if we'd look at someone like Robin van Persie or even Kjetil Knutsen. To stay up we are going to need a little magic from somewhere now.

This is what I'm saying.

Go find someone who could be special. If its a risk so be it. The thought of Rob Edwards makes me shudder.

I wouldn't peak too soon. Read somewhere that if you put "who is the closest direct replacement for Kieran McKenna as a manager" into AI, it spits out Barry-Murphy.

It's possible, given that a couple of hundred quid can shift manager markets, it might be that a few did that last night and lumped on.

Or.....

It could be that his tactical profile is reminiscent of someone else......

https://footballbunsekicom.com

"Brian Barry-Murphy implements a possession-based, "total football" style of play heavily influenced by Pep Guardiola and positional play principles. His tactical approach emphasizes fluid movement, technical bravery in deep build-up, and quick vertical passing into the attacking third.

His tactical blueprint features several hallmark principles:

Controlled Build-up: He encourages defenders and goalkeepers to be incredibly confident and calm on the ball. Players are expected to play through high-pressing opponents using overloads and short split passes rather than simply clearing the ball.

Positional Fluidity: He relies on fluid movement where wingers are often instructed to drift inside, and central defenders or midfielders push up into the half-spaces to break opposition lines.

Width: His teams maintain wide players high up the pitch to stretch the opponent's defensive line, create 2v1 advantages on the flanks, and isolate fullbacks.

Pragmatic Directness: While deeply rooted in possession, he remains highly flexible. He encourages players to recognize when a high-pressing, man-to-man team can be bypassed with quick, direct passes in behind the line to exploit immediate space."

We're most likely going to need a hefty dose of pragmatism. I'm not sure attempting the special route aligns with what we need.
