Only criticism I have is that it's handball. But for the stupid shirtsleeve rule they brought in. So correct under current rules. But current rules are silly.

He was never in possession of that ball. He threw himself in front of the defender, facing away from the ball, and the ball deflected off him. You can't just superman in front of someone to draw a foul!

I didn’t know there was a shirtsleeve rule. Baena is wearing long sleeves so how does that work?

Quite. More stupid messing with rules I know what an arm is as opposed to a shoulder. Shirtsleeves vary

He literally won the ball and got kicked. He did nothing illegal to win the ball. It's a penalty. SB

Thought Rabiot was very fortunate not to see a second yellow. As for the OP, it’s a penalty all day long.

He did he handballed it. Forget the T-shirt nonsense as some wear baggier shirts so the sleeves go down further, that clearly hit his arm and not shoulder. Yes I know the current nonsense rules but frankly he gained an unfair advantage using his arm to knock the ball down. However, yes by today's rule nothing illegal and penalty. He was falling (diving) before there was even contact. He initiated that contact, just like Spence. He cheated.

Hold fire, how did Spence cheat? He put his foot down and it got booted as he was trying to protect the ball. In that moment he did everything right, certainly under the current laws.

Not sure if you are pulling my leg, but he deliberately stuck his foot out to the right, making no attempt to the ball, initiating the contact. VAR caught it, ref looked at it, and confirmed the same reason. It wasn't certainly under the laws, hence why VAR flagged it and the ref correctly overturned it. Yamal should have also been similarly held to account. [Post edited 15 Jul 6:34]

I don't think it's anything like the same, hard to see how it was much different to Kane vs Croatia, he won the ball and was fouled. I don't think he was falling, he would have landed on his feet. SB

Kane didn't initiate the contact. Drawing comparison to Kane is a false equivalence.

Indeed, Yamal had no intent of doing anything with the ball. He's only intent was to throw himself in front of the clearance to initiate contact. If the defender had managed to pull out of the challenge, the ball would've bounced off Yamal, he would've flopped on the turf, and the ball would've gone out of play. Yamal was not in control of the ball, so hadn't "won" it.
