They could at least have made it sound like one of those WW2 air raid sirens

I had a phone each side of me and nearly spat me fag out into the bushes!

| Parp! (n/t) on 19:07 - Aug 14 with 925 views | pedrail | A bit disruptive if you're at a concert or at the theatre. I would think that this particular alert could have been done without the loud noise. Of course being under attack would be a different matter. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Parp! (n/t) on 19:09 - Aug 14 with 875 views | wischip | I'm pretty sure I've had 2 Government alerts before and they were heavily publicised beforehand so we knew they were coming. Is that the first one without prior warning ? Nearly sh@t myself. | | | |

Needed to get the numpties attention. Like my neighbour out the back who starts a fire in his garden at least once a week, sometimes twice all summer. People like that need to jump to be made aware of it,or they wouldn’t take any notice of it.

Aye that's true. I think that's the future now: no pre-warned alerts to get Everyone's attention. But I grew up in the 70s/80s (and I watched Threads last year) and I genuinely thought for the first 5 seconds 'have they dropped the Bomb?' before then thinking it must be about the heatwave/drought/wildfires.
