After the recent death of Bonnie Tyler I was reminded of her sensational performance on Norwegian television earlier in the week.
As a regular lurker here, somehow the song - which of course shares the name of this very site, somehow combined in my mind last night resulting in a dream. That of being at Old Trafford, Town going 2-0 up late on and the whole away end singing this after the usual limbs.
Only a few of the words stuck in my head. So I’ve had to try and re-write / write the rest as best as I can. I can but hope this gains some traction as - and it may be because it’s a fresh dream and I’m biased - but it seemed to work incredibly well in dream format. Have become slightly obsessed with this today given the fitting nature of the song name, the premise of it and the excitement of us being ‘back’.
Feel free to update the words as needed. I’m sure they can be bettered and apologies I can’t remember them all, assuming any other words even existed!
(sang slowly)
Once upon a time the mighty Towen Were regulars upon the Europe scene Sir Bobby’s heroes conquered all before them We really were the finest football team
(faster)
Those were the days my friend We thought they’d never end We beat them all We never lost at home We’ll see the like again And I’ll be right there when The Town are back Right back where we belong
La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La
This time we won’t go down We’re Ipswich f***ing Town And Town are back These are the days again
At best this will catch on with some revision and that dream comes true. I suspect it’s more likely I’ll be laughed at.
And no. This wasn’t straight after eating my favorite cheese (Wensleydale and Cranberry).
