I'm quite excited about watching this team develop and perform this season 19:58 - Aug 28 with 1424 viewsDubtractor

We've got some serious talent on our books now, possibly with more to come, and it feels like we've given ourselves an excellent chance of staying up. I'm wary about being more bullish than that just yet, but here's hoping!

The main point though, is that we've got a group of players who should be capable of playing football toe to toe with a lot of teams in the division now, rather than every win needing to be about an away style performance where we need to sit in and contain teams.

We saw that, second half especially, against Sunderland where we really took the game to them when we had possession. And that was a team with 8 debutants overall, so you'd hope we get slicker and more able to impose ourselves as the weeks pass.

One of the things I disliked the most 2 seasons ago was that we just weren't really competitive most weeks - going to games knowing you are almost certainly going to lose isn't that much fun, and the novelty of being in the premier league wears off pretty quickly. I'll be honest and say that the fear of another season of that tempered my joy at being promoted again. But I think this season may well be a lot of fun.

COYB!!

Agreed, even if you really shouldn't be going!

Edit...kind of glad you are as I trust your reading of games.

I think we were competitive, certainly til the turn of the year. We were on the wrong side of fine margins and I think with our squad depth we couldn't have done much more. After Christmas it was generally bleaker with only a couple of high points.

May need to wait a bit to see how we match up but it's certainly a more positive outlook with depth in midfield even if we might still be a bit light in defence, and possibly up front.

It's been a very good summer and a great start but obviously a bump back down to earth is coming at some point in this league and likely before the international break. I hope everyone reacts accordingly!

New team, new manager, a lot to figure out still over the next few months. Luckily that Sunderland result has taken the pressure off we can look forward to watching our team against Liverpool and United in the next week!

I think Leeds started off about 1 PPG last season until about 11-12 games gone last year, would be great to be above that after Bournemouth at home on 7th November and I think we will be! Two more wins in the next 9-10 and we are basically there already.

Yeah, I think that’s right for the first half of that season. Away from home, with a couple of exceptions, we stayed competitive but that run oh home matches was pretty dire.

Yes agree with that and once you get beyond Christmas and the nimber of games reduces and you begin to realise you need near title winning form to survive it just becomes impossible. Had we just sneaked over the line in some of those early season draws it could have been so much different.

Well we are certainly more prepared this time round which is good.

I’d happily take 17th this season.

I’ve already had a bet with my Leeds supporting postman that The Towen will finish above them.

He didn’t sound to confident.

Up The Towen.

Yes, for all the money we've spent we have to be realistic we have a Brazilian prospect, Brentford have a Brazilian international. That's the harsh reality. For me this season is about getting 4th bottom with anything better a bonus.

Sorry Benters but I actually think Leeds will do quite well this season, they've spent wisely I'd suggest though if you win your bet we are deffo staying up.

Your last paragraph so true. Just hope we're not bought back down to earth in the next two games as things can change very quickly.

I'd take a narrow defeat and draw from next two, hopefully get something at Palace and then 7 points from Hull/Fulham/Forest we are on track for 20 points by xmas. Beat Cov and Hull in January and 40 points looks realistic.

There will be ups and downs but hopefully this ride will be significantly better than the last one.
