Proud of Andre dozzell 01:25 - Aug 30 with 2234 viewsstiff_talking

Andre is playing for DC United vs LAFC right now. How many Englishman have made it big in America !! Proud of Andre as an Ipswich boy to play top level in USA.

Without being that guy, loads of English players have played in the MLS with varying levels of ability. Good luck to him and an exciting personal move no doubt but not sure it’s particularly a higher level than he’s already played overall?

Andre had a good game at center half. A shock for him to play that role but he had excellent game and game finished 0-0. MLS is at least middle of championship level.

Yeah I wasn’t having ago at him or anything. I’ve probably been to 50 MLS games over the last decade and the league is improving and changing for sure.

With the amount of money slushing around it is attracting better international players not just those on a retirement tour at the end of their careers. However, loads of players have been out there from Tommy Smith to David Beckham, it’s a real mismatch of talents at various levels.

Players move the other way into the champ as well as a step up in terms of opportunities to play in Europe, see Boro’s business this summer.

Good luck to Andre, exciting for him and a new challenge I’m sure.

Proud ? He is there because he couldn’t cut it over here. It’s a get out when you are either past it or just not up to English football.

Tells you everything you need to know about the level.

I don't think MLS is middle. Hamp level at all. Andre couldn't play CB at champ level that's for sure.

MLS is a very different league though. It has a smattering of some real.quality players but has some L2 and below players in the mix as well. As a package it has come on a lot. There are a few decent teams in there but the intensity and level is not champ. Champ is a really high level and immediately after the top 4-5 leagues in the world for me.

He just didn't fancy taking the step down to play for Norwich.

He turned down a new contract with Portsmouth to move to the US so it's not a case of not being able to cut it.

I suspect money is the main reason. Why else when in your prime would you go to MLS?

I don't think that fair really for players who are not at the very top of the game. For someone like Dozzell, who is an average Championship midfielder, there's not much he's really giving up in terms of potential medals/playing in the Premier League. He's 27 now so probably knows he's going to be a mid table Championship midfielder for most of his career before going down through the leagues or he can move to the US on more money with far less pressure, more time on the ball and can likely play until his mid thirties.

Calling him an average Championship midfielder is not intended as an insult. To have a solid career at that level is some achievement. If he had stayed he would likely have ended up with around 450 appearances. I can definitely see the logic in making the move though.

MLS has changed loads in the last 15 years so proper good youngsters coming through as well but the original post read like he had really made it or something.

Fair play, the MLs is at least vaguely competitive. Now, if he'd gone to Saudi...
