Hope that gives him more confidence going forward.

Delighted for him too but if he missed that he would be on the way to the knackers yard.

Not an easy job but thought hit was poor compared to what we saw from Emersonn

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

He was out of his depth, I don't think he will gain that much confidence from rolling a ball into an empty net.

Frankly I was expecting him to miss. His control and hold up play were poor. We really need to bring in another CF by Tuesday. ...yes obvious, but it is needed.

Please for him as an individual but christ hes so poor at prem level

We had zero chance of anything that half. Macguire wont have easier halfs all season.

Big big 48 hours for us.

That’s why I said I hope the goal gives him more confidence going forward at Prem level.

Scoring after a drought has worked for others in the past

Just as well with time running out and Tammy not wanting to be here.

Him scoring isnt suddenly going to make him a prem forward who can actually win a dual amd bring others into the game.

I think he would score well over 20 goals in the champ as a atriker. But for this level and what you need to do other than score esp for a promoted side.. hes never gonna be that.

Good job you’re not managing us, such little faith.

“who can actually win a dual amd bring others into the game”. I remember several people saying on here after his last game, that he did exactly that but berated him for not scoring.

Some people are never happy.

He’s hardly going to be encouraged after that result is he.

Losing Emersonn was critical,
Akpom has neither the presence, strength or control to worry a Prem back four, who were now free to push up
Akpom needs replacing ASAP

I'd say as a striker you'd be pretty encouraged about playing for a team that had 2.01 XG at Old Trafford ...

Maybe he does not want to play for a team towards the bottom of the league but we were always going to be that so not sure today will have much impact!

Reminder - it’s a team game, in which he only came on for the second half.

Agreed Akpom in a two fine but he is not up to being the out man and holding up the ball at this level.

I don’t tink it was worth the 6m to keep him instead of Hirst.

I honestly don’t think he’s good enough to be 3rs choice.

He's way way short of the required quality.

He was behind Hirst and Azon last year which says all you need to know, he's only here because we were obliged to buy him

The fact hes got into shape and trained a lot all summer doesn't impress me it shows he wasn't that committed last year and can only be bothered to give it his all now hes on the big stage

Keep him as 3rd choice and play him in the cup but frankly I hope we won't see much more of him in the PL.

3rd choice should be a young prem loanee who can at least close down and charge about a bit.

If I were Abraham, (ah, if only…), I’d be hugely encouraged, thinking “I can be a regular starter at this club, could score 20+ this season in the best league in the world, help them stay up, and get myself a fantastic berth somewhere in the EPL next season for even more ££millions!

Yes, a young project type to learn on the job.
I think I agree and would have no issue on Akpom being loaned out with a view to shifting him permanently

I must have had a premonition. Only yesterday I posted that it isn't even an option that we get another striker in, it's a 100% necessity. Especially if the worst happened and one ( especially Emersonn ) got injured, and we'd be facing striker armageddon. Well, it's arrived rather quicker than I was expecting!

How bad is Emersonn injury?

We obviously do have goals from all around the squad in us tho, cf Leif’s magnificent one today.
