| If anyone is having a meltdown after that.. give your head a wobble 23:03 - Sep 4 with 1428 views | unstableblue | We were appalling for 10mins, no excuses, a complete mess. And the team lost the fickle Portman Road crowd early. That second goal was embarrassing. BUT we regrouped and even in a back 4 became relatively robust and became a team asking questions of Liverpool. Those questions obviously weren’t threatening enough. But we were causing issues. But after going down by 2 goals after 9mins we could have completely imploded as at Old Trafford. And we didn’t. Yes a really disappointing night. But anyone having a meltdown, about the manager, certain players - please have a reset. | |

Only thing I question is this narrative that we were any real threat second half. Liverpool took off Isak just after the hour and it was essentially a training match for Virgil et al. We didn't have any real foothold in the game or any meaningful chances or win any of the one on one battles. Our season won't be dictated by tonight but I don't think Liverpool will have an easier away game.

It’s massively deflating to lose a game with the nation watching in the first 10 minutes when you’ve got chance to hurt a big 4 team at home. It was a big occasion and it was over before it started. The problems were rather too familiar. We’d want to be feeling really good about our keeping after 3 games not have question marks again.

My point was that we weren’t causing any real threat But we were causing them to sit back to defend And that’s why it stayed at 0-2 And keeping that game to 0-2 after our early capitulation, was a positive

I was agreeing with you. A few other threads are slightly overstating our 2nd half display imo. It was fine and robust is a good description. However, the game was long dead.

No one can dispute that the first 10-15mins were a clusterf@ck And to be honest if we’d stayed robust and then tested them early and got the crowd going, there was genuinely a chance of a result with that Liverpool team But in front of the Nation watching, we could have got bumped 0-5 if we hadn’t regrouped And that Liverpool team will absolutely blitz some teams this season There interplay for the first 30mins was wild class… which no one is recognising

Not taking a moral victory from not losing worse after that first 10 mins tbh, not two years on. Need to learn quickly to avoid that.

I think we are agreeing in part As I said, and you confirm, we didn’t lay a glove on them in that second half or across the whole game, as the XG confirms BUT it is naive to think that we were not causing them issues in our play that made them have to sit deep - that’s why they didn’t get more goals, they were having to sit in as we were getting on the ball and probing.

| If anyone is having a meltdown after that.. give your head a wobble on 08:47 - Sep 5 with 731 views | Churchman | I disagree. We were beaten out of sight and the score depended on whether Liverpool wanted to go for it or turn it into a training session. They fortunately chose the latter. When you have the quality of players they have, you can do that. They had a team. We had a lot of players - some very good but despite 100% effort and sticking at it, they were not a team. It’s a dirty word but most new teams need time to gel. This isn’t FM26, it’s human beings and all that goes with that. I disagree re the crowd too. I have no idea how it sounded on the tv, but I thought they stayed with the team throughout. | | | |

At most clubs the stands would have emptied long before the final whistle. [Post edited 5 Sep 8:51]

| If anyone is having a meltdown after that.. give your head a wobble on 08:50 - Sep 5 with 715 views | BloomBlue | Last season in Leeds first 4 games they:- Beat Everton 1-0 Lost to Arsenal 5-0 Drew Newcastle 0-0 Lost to Fulham 1-0 So 4 points after 4 games. Now Leeds fans aren't known for staying calm, yes they were concerned they had only scored 2 goals, but even they were happy with 4 points from 4 games. Get a point at Palace and we're matching them. | | | |
| If anyone is having a meltdown after that.. give your head a wobble on 08:50 - Sep 5 with 714 views | MattinLondon | First ten minutes were embarrassing- defensive and goalkeeping howlers. But there is no shame in being beaten by a Liverpool side which contains a few world class players. If we had produced last nights performance against a Fulham or a Coventry then I would be very worried about the season ahead. I’m not saying that last night was a free hit because there’s no such thing as them in this division. I don’t think that Liverpool eased up at all - think they really wanted that clean sheet so both teams sort of cancelled each other out. Against a lesser team I do think that we wouldve been much more effective. Anyway, Palace, Everton and Fulham next. Let’s see how many pints we get from those three league matches before we lose all hope. | | | |
| If anyone is having a meltdown after that.. give your head a wobble on 10:19 - Sep 5 with 546 views | OldFart71 | I went to the pub last night to watch the game. A game despite us losing I enjoyed. Yes we have lessons to learn. For starters the defence just isn't right. O'Shea isn't a fullback. What we must remember though is that it has been a struggle to get players in. Some have maybe taken longer to get in and possibly cost more than we would have liked What I take from last night's game is the same as I took from the Utd game and that is "we aren't that bad". Yes we have lost both games by three and two goals. It could be argued Utd were fortunate and after conceding two early goals against Liverpool we competed to a reasonable standard without causing them huge problems partly due to the final ball. These games whilst being important are not one's we expect to win. So it will be important that the one's where we should get something out of we do. | | | |

Agree with all that. I'm amazed that some people think that Liverpool 'eased up' after just 10 minutes. Really? They spent 80 minutes playing as if it were a training game, without really trying to score? Don't think so No, we improved, caused them a few problems - sure they could have scored again, but we improved, grew in confidence and played some decent stuff ourselves.
