They are a team which we have a very poor record against although I take delight in saying I was at Anfield when Stewart scored and we beat them. But equally I was at PR when we lost 5-0.
My head tells me it's a heavy defeat likely 3 or 4 to 1 but my heart hopes for a 2-2 draw.
Barcola and Munoz likely to cause issues down the lines and Isak always seems to score against us. Hoping for a Flemming goal for us to get him off the mark.
If we do lose I hope it's not another heavy defeat with two tricky away games next up. |  |

Progress please.
At this stage for the red marked games anything better than losing by 3 clear goals, this was the form from last time and it is how it started again at MU. Finding a way to be competitive and take points is magical stuff otherwise being competitive and improving on the way the MU game went is progress.
Let’s face it there are more than a handful of games, many games where we are not expected to take any points, this is one of them, overachieving that against any top 6-8 team is when staying up starts to look more of a prospect.

However, compared to Hull we look defensively frail, Diop was a superb signing, but otherwise we’ve not strengthened at the back. I’d hoped GON might be more pragmatic, ideally sacrifice a forward and go 5 at the back (however that looks unlikely given the lack of CB through the door).

Liverpool have not been great so far this season,Barcola is likely to make a difference though. But whilst Nunez has played ok he was never likely to be starting games,so Palacio in there should make a huge difference.

2 seasons ago when we suffered heavy defeats from the top teams we seemed to concede 2-3 goals in rapid succession in brief spells. That happened again in the 5-2 with Man U on Sunday. The top teams can smell blood when a team feel hard done by like with Handball Harry on Sunday & they take advantage of it. They are ruthless & don't care whether their decision is lucky or not. We've got to learn to stop & reverse the flow when we concede a goal. I'm not expecting miracles too soon but hoping for closer games with the top teams. |  | | |

I would definitely have taken 3 points from our first 3 games, so anything more than that is a bonus.
That said, teams that are genuinely Premier League competitive, whilst they might not win a lot of points off the likes of Liverpool also don't take a lot of absolute shoeings either, especially at home. It would be a good sign if we compete well up to the end of the game. |  |

Liverpool are obviously favourites and will probably have too much firepower for us, and I think we will struggle against their two new wide players, but they're extremely vulnerable themselves defensively. Their midfield is poor defensively, their full-backs are average (again, they ended up with a midfielder at right back), Jacquet was tired after 60 minutes, and Van Dijk has slowed down a lot.
We have the players who can cause them problems. I worry about us defensively. We need to be much better tactically than we were against Man U and not be so open. Even in the first half, where we played well, we were far too open. We need to be better set up when we lose the ball.
Hopefully we have learned from that game. If not, Liverpool will hammer us, but we should be confident of making it hard for them at home! [Post edited 2 Sep 11:18]

If we sit in and go very deep, they’ll wear us down eventually - when not if they score, once they score could be 3 or 4.
So got to get the balance right, breaking on them and the strong press upfield, get at their defence, create chances. Unsettle them.

As with a lot of teams, they aren't actually THAT good.
Yes they have players who can hurt us, and if they all play well, it could well be 3 or 4 (or more) for them.
As long as we don't collapse like Sunday, and have a good go, that's all we can ask. I'm hopeful for a draw....! [Post edited 2 Sep 17:07]
