| Dartford crossing / parking fines 15:48 - Oct 19 with 636 views | victorysquad | This is another area of the state / corporations taxing people just to raise cash: "Dartford Crossing banks extra £50m from drivers in a year" I mean, how is it fair that they let you drive on a road, and then if someone 'forgets' to pay, they fine you £38. It just seems morally bankrupt to allow this sort of thing (and parking fines) to go on. How many old retired folk get hit by this sort of thing and cannot afford to pay it, then get chased by legal letters etc? It is basically intimidation, how a lot of gov and corporate entities are allowed to behave these days. Happy Monday! | |

| Dartford crossing / parking fines on 17:04 - Oct 19 with 449 views | DJR | I got caught one night coming back from a game when the M25 was closed after the M2 but there were no diversion signs. My immediate thought was that the quickest way was to go on the M2 into London and go back out on the A20. But as I passed a sign for the London Borough of Bexley, I immediately thought of ULEZ as my car is non-compliant. I tried to appeal in advance that I had entered the zone due to the diversion but they weren't having it as they said I should have left the zone at the first opportunity in Bexley. It was also impossible to find out whether my car had actually been captured on camera. And it was not possible to backdate registration for an account. So I ended up paying two lots of ULEZ in order to avoid any sort of hassle given I had entered around midnight and so couldn't be sure I was not liable for two days' charge. I found out later that they might well have given me only a warning for a first offence but I still found the whole episode unsatisfactory. [Post edited 19 Oct 17:06]

| Dartford crossing / parking fines on 17:10 - Oct 19 with 417 views | soupytwist | As is commonly known the Dartford crossing fees were supposed to end once the construction costs had been recovered. That hasn't happened. It might have been OK to keep a lower level of toll to fund ongoing maintenance/repair but that's not happened either. M4 into Wales has been toll-free for quite a while now by comparison. | | | |

If you do it once, you get a warning sent out to you - you then set up auto-pay. Auto-pay can cover everything from congestion charge to dart charge. Is it all a con? Yes, almost certainly, but getting a fine on top is just laziness. [Post edited 19 Oct 17:40]
