| Latest UN report on climate change 08:13 - Oct 22 with 1060 views | StokieBlue | The latest UN report predicting temperature increases by the end of the century: https://www.independent.co.uk/ Obviously it's model based so comes with some caveats but the conclusion seems to be that 1.5C is long gone and with current policies 2.1 to 2.8C increase by the end of the century is now probable. Given that many parties in the West are moving away from climate pledges and net zero targets (for various economic and ideological reasons) it doesn't seem unlikely that we will end up somewhere in that given range. Warming of around 1.8C could still be achieved but it would take a reduction of emissions of 69% by 2040. SB | |

Of course a consequence of ignoring all the evidence on climate, and climate change does actually occur, will be mass migration of humans when places become unable to support humans.

Yeah, you can sort of forgive the dinosaurs for not stopping meteorites, even though they had more time on the planet, but future historians from the next lot, will think humans were a right bunch of numpties.

They're not even doing that any more. China is moving into renewables at a vast rate.

As China are starting from such a high bar, they certainly have the opportunity and funding to counter their own climate affecting. Not sure that any the other industrializing countries in Asia have any structured plans of their own. India in particular. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

They also haven’t pledged to be net zero for another 30+ years, renewables is only part of the equation. Still happy to subsidise excess production, financially subsidised by the state and ‘dump’ it in other markets effectively at a loss, hardly responsible* Fortunately EU tarrifs are coming on Chinese cars, and we’ll likely follow for single market access. Interesting programme on the World Service the other day which said that many Chinese companies involved in renewables are loss-making. Here's a link to an article earlier in the year. https://www.renewableenergyasi
