going forward, but how we are let down by those expensive defensive signings. I recall what a great performance Woolfenden put in when we narrowly lost 1-0 (away)!against Arsenal last season. I hoped that McKenna would continue to build upon the solid defensive tactics that were prevalent in that game, but alas no. Davis continued to bomb on, with little defensive cover on the left, and O’Shea and Greaves continued their error prone form. McKenna doesn’t have long to turn this round.

Disagree. I think we have problems as an attacking unit too. And certainly as a team in transition between attack and defence.

It might be a negative take but if you take out Philogene worldies and penalties we would be in bigger shtuk. For all the fluffy possession, our patterns of play are miles behind where they were in 23/24.

My “we are a great team going forward” comment was an overly positive take after being impressed by our first half performance, but you are correct in noting that Philogene has got us out of jail when our attack has generally been misfiring.

It's not a great look for your Woolfenden argument to talk about one game.

He wouldn't have changed the game last night, and even if he could, let's stop being the crestfallen exes.

I think McKenna analysed it the best (funny that isn't it) - when we went one down, there wasn't enough fire to get back into them and turn it around. That's still his problem to solve, but we'll not be successful until that gets sorted out.

Also he mentioned Charlton's going "man for man" in their approach. That would probably be an improvement for us too, defensively

Indeed, the desperate search for positives is ridiculous. if we were great going forward we would have scored more than once (which was from a set piece) in the last two games.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

We need a regular goal scorer up top (Hirst woefully out of form and Azon yet to hit the net, albeit an encouraging performance last night I thought). An effective 10 (Akpom was pretty good last night, but we need an upgraded Chappers "in the hole" type and not sure he's that). Egeli has shown glimpses of that but is nowhere near ready to take role on at this stage. And we need a plan for covering Azor if he's injured or suspended. Jens and Nunez played some lovely stuff going forward, but left big holes in the second half in defensive terms, something Azor would've plugged. And Taylor isn't the answer. We also need to settle on a CB pairing and let that develop - my slight preference would be OS and Kipre. Greaves has many good points and I get the stats, but always seems susceptible on the turn (not writing him off am sure he'll come good). I wonder how much of this will be addressed in Jan.

A team that has 30 shots on goal and 16 corners and scores zero, does not look great going forward
