Depends on what you mean by season defining. If you mean in a game that defined our performances in terms of being 'the epitome of', there are quite a few to choose from although I might pick Stoke away, because it included 1) goals conceded from basic errors and going behind despite dominating play, 2) a decent reaction to going behind (2-0 down) and scoring with some quality goals, 3) a dubious refereeing decision against us, and 4) drawing a game we really ought to have won.
However if you mean season defining as being not necessarily representative of our play across the season, but showing that we were capable of the level required to go up (and subsequently having achieved that), I'd go for Coventry away as the first time I truly believe this team did have enough about them to go up. |  | | |

Hull at home for me. Was sat in North Stand upper tier.
Big match. Crowd were very noisy and supportive.
We played well second half.
Great goal from Matusiwa (he's flipping dynamite).
Should have been comfortable, but Clarke missed that pretty simple chance.
Then we had to defend doggedly for last 10 mins plus injury time.
Left the ground with a quiet confidence that we'd probably get 2nd place after that.

3-0 home win against Coventry. Not an obvious choice necessarily as it was a fairly routine win in the end but it came off the back of some indifferent performances and results and our season has kicked up a gear since then. 44 points in 21 games (including the Coventry game) which is nicely in excess of the magical 2 PPG. Before that we'd picked up 28 from 18, very much upper midtable form. |  |
