Reading the Jack Clarke to Sheff Utd story got me thinking, that we're going to need wealthy Championship clubs to come in for the likes of Ogbene, Szmodics and Akpom. Otherwise the best we can hope for is loans with us subsidising their wages.
Surely Jack Clarke to Sheff Utd is a non-starter, even if they're interested and we're open to selling. They have no parachute payments next season and we're unlikely to accept a loss on a player that cost us £15M+.
IMO the only clubs who can afford to buy our under contract players are the relegated clubs, Wrexham, Birmingham and Soton (if not promoted). I guess we may accept an offer from Derby for Szmodics, but fingers crossed wealthy clubs come in for Ogbene and Akpom. |  | | |  |

I can't see us getting a lot back at all for Szmodics.
He'll be 31 next season, he's had one good season at Championship level and, from what my Derby supporting friends tell me, hasn't been all that great for them.

Not sure we'll get much of an offer for Ogbene. Only had 39 minutes of football since early November and obviously spent a long time out injured before that. We'll have to take the hit on him. |  |

I'll be surprised and impressed if we get much more than £3.5m for him, for the reasons you've mentioned. £6m in Jan would have been incredible business. |  |

Absolutely no chance Akpom is anywhere near our squad. He couldnt get a kick for us in the Championship so why would he be involved in the Prem? | | | |

All will have just got a wage bump too. Also when you sell you have to amortise the whole fee in one go rather than just for that season, so you can sell and still end up in a worse 'book' position (Ogbene has £4m left to go, of which £2m would go on the books this season if we kept him, Szmodics £4.5m, £2.25m this season, Akpom the full £7.5m, £2.5m this season).
So unless we could get at least £2m for Ogbene, £2.25m for Szmodics and £5m for Akpom, we'd be better off loaning them. |  |
